I've got a 2004 (10/2003) Cummins ISX 435ST in my International 9200-i and my oil pressure gauge has been completely upside down flashing Low Oil Pressure for a month.

Now all of a sudden it reads low or 0 pressure and has steady Low Oil Pressure and Stop Engine lights.

I'm putting a new filter on tomorrow thinking and hopin it's just a clogged filter. It's been quite awhile since it was changed because we forgot to change it when I changed the oil pan.

Also about 2 months ago the EGR valve failed (although it wasn't even plugged in) and I had to drive it about 40 miles with no turbo boost because of the failed valve, if that means anything.

First of I can't thank you enough for these post guys. Here's my story. After a hard brake my ISX began to show me the light and beep of the low oil pressure and it was showing in the gauge under 20 psi. Thank God I was 5 mins from Kenwoth Atlanta. When they spent 2 hrs to find out nothing. They were suggesting me to use another 8 hrs of labor to find out what's going on. The engine may have burned they say. Most likely you'll need a reframe. Well, it was a hell of a night last night with all this on my head. And because I read your post I told them to put new rotella oil and change the oil filter that btw they didn't even touch. I'm here telling the story of my truck running just fine, well I hope for long enough.

so you're basically saying your engine is running fine with rotella in it?

I would love to know how a hard brake application causes a loss of oil pressure and how simply changing the oil restores it.

That's right. After the oil change I've run close to 1000 miles and iddle is back to 20 psi 650 RPM and running 35 to 40 psi with 1300 RPM and up.

By the way I did a lot of stab braking. That engine shocked up and down together with any particles sitting somewhere. Chances are that the filter got clogged with them.

How long was it on the previous oil change and was it up to level?

Only 5k after the switch to Delvac. Oh I absolutely keep an eye on it all the time. Actually when I checked it. It was the first thing, it was in the top line.

You had the oil pump and main bearings changed only? You didn't have them replace the connecting rod bearings too? the rod bearings is what usually wears out on these engines, i've replaced rod bearings and oil pumps and went from 12 psi to 40 psi... mains don't wear out like the rod bearings do. If the timing is out it can cause this...If the injection timing is retarded then the oil begins to thicken and oil pressure drops, to fix this takes more work because you need to pop the timing gears off and set engine base timing, highly recommend using the 6 degree wedge on both cams, instead of using the 4 degree for the injector camshaft. You could also be carbon packed and need an overhaul, previous owner sold it for a reason...he didn't want to spend money and fix it right.
