I have an 09 ProStar with an AutoShift. I do a lot of bobtailing. This tranny drives me nuts because it always downshifts to 2nd gear when I stop. It will not let me manually choose a gear when stopped. At most I need 6th gear to start rolling when I am bobtailing. My question is............... can the programming be changed to allow me to choose a higher gear to start rolling when bobtailing? Is this done in the body controller or is their yet another computer just for the tranny?

You have an "ultrashit"i left the F out. Lol
Our transmissions dont skip gears and won't let you start off of a higher gear.
To say the least, they're rated up to 750k miles before the headaches start. I consider my 13 an engineering marble. However I wont get another auto when a standard can outlast the auto 3:1.
Eaton has all the keys and codes for the autos and they won't bulch.

Select drive but stay still, then hit your up arrow button to select a higher starting gear. This will be your new default starting gear everytime until you change it again, or cycle the key. The autoshift does have some "driver proof" logic where you cannot start in a gear that would cause lugging or drivetrain damage. If you select a gear that is too high, it will beep mad at you. Not sure what the gear is. Let us know how you make out!

Okay I selected drive and stood still and then selected the up arrow key. But it only beeped at me and would not change gears. It would let me downshift to 1st gear and then back to 2nd but that is all. Anything else I should try?

    Dear sir, I drive a 13 ultrashift.
It will NOT let you start off on any other gear, but if you really have the need to start of in 3rd, you can do that in reverse.

That must be the maximum starting gear it is programmed for. The instructions I have said it will beep if you select a higher gear than what it wants. I don't play with these too often but there are parameters that can be tinkered with, perhaps this is one of them. It would require a visit to a dealer though.

    texasmorrell Thanks this.

I agree. I downloaded the PDF instruction manual and it does say you can select a higher starting gear by depressing the brake and pushing the up arrow until you reach the desired gear before you select "D". I figure it is programmed to override this function in the transmission ECU. Like you said I will need to find a shop with Eaton Road Ranger software to reprogram it, but it is possible.

    Heavyd Thanks this.
