I am looking to buy a reliable truck for my farm to haul grain and alfalfa and am leaning towards a T600 or 9400i. I have seen a saturation of 2006-2007 International 9200-9400 models on the market and was wondering if anybody could tell me why. Looking in the $25000 dollar and under price range.
    Thanks

Honestly, I havent been driving long enough to give the best advice on this. I don't know all of the different models and all that. What I do know is Penske loves seeing me pull in to their yard in the Prostar I'm driving right now. It's a pile of junk. Always something going wrong. Its only got 400k miles on it. If I were going to buy a truck for myself it would not be an international. We even had the same problem with our international at lowes. Always something wrong. Costly fixes. Constantly having to pour money into them. Other drivers have told me the same thing about theirs. We have another truck just like mine at my current job and it's the same thing. Only difference is the other one seems to be even worse than mine somehow. Just my 2 cents

Well, the short answer is they made a lot of them. It was a popular fleet truck at the time.

With Cummins engines they began putting EGR valves on in 05 or 04 I think. If you can find a pre-emissions 9400 like 99-03 with Cummins N14 or Detroit you can eliminate a lot of worries and also have an engine with all replacement parts and rebuild much cheaper.

try to get a 13 sp if you can. 10 sp is common, and it's okay, but just a lot easier to keep engine operating in the sweet spot with 13.

The reason you see so many of those on the market is they're basically junk. The '06-'08's are breakdowns waiting to happen. We had 7 drivers buy '07's at our company thru the Go-Green program. Every one of them is broken down more than they run. If you must have an IH, go either older than '06 or newer than '08. Those 3 years seem to be bad news.

Probably because they are not legal in California and Walmart had a lot of them to get rid off. If you just want a local truck, go looking for a 03 or older, a electronic controlled engine is desired, but not necessary.

    03 down,(IMHO)! Cat C15,60series,or N14,all are good engines, no pre-emission junk,is what I highly recommend,but that's just my .02 cents !!!

The last thing you want to do is buy an International and the second last thing you want to do is buy any truck built between 2006-2011.

    6nz-kw Thanks this.
