Can someone possibly school me on mufflers? I ran over a bumpy railroad track in my 07- 9400I the other day and the stack became loose. i climbed up to check it out and noticed it had broken through my muffler because the top of the muffler had rust damage. by the time i got home the whole thing caved in and my stack is sitting in the muffler. I called international, and they want $475 for a new muffler. I have been on multiple websites and found donaldson and a couple other brand mufflers for around $100. Is there something special about the $475 muffler from international that i need for my truck? or is it just over priced? Ive found the same length, width etc but dont know if there is some difference on the inside. Some mufflers say they are for international but dont list the 9400i series. I just need to get this fixed. I haul containers with my truck, so i dont need top of the line stuff. Just need what works. I cant find any part numbers or anything for my truck. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Rod

there is nothing wrong with Donaldson or other aftermarket brands. More than likely they make the OEM muffler, you just aren't paying the premium for the OEM part. I only buy OEM parts if I can't find an identical part from an aftermarket source.

Chances are the expensive muffler has a catalytic section. As long as the muffler will fit, you can install what you want.

if you put on one of those $100 jobs you dump it down like a weed burner, My o6 9400i cost me $590, is as big as a cow but quiet, it goes in and comes out the same end then goes to the stacks

Just had mine replaced. Covered under Ryder's 30 day warranty. Exact same issue, started off with a slight, off angled stack and by the end of the day it looked like it was ready to fall off. I took pictures and fought with the stack until i finally got it out. The service MGR said it was under $100 for the muffler. I guess I'll find out how long it'll last. Made by Donaldson.
