Anyone have any feedback on the DCS division of JB Hunt, particularly the retail delivery side (Target et al)?

My current gig got underbid on a new contract by JB and I'm pondering applying for the same position I have presently. I'm sure I'll be disappointed as far as trucks go... We're governed at 67-68mph though the trucks are somewhat ratty Macks and Freightliners.

Anybody? How's the pay for experienced drivers? Stop/detention, bennies...speak up if you know. This is for regional DCS in the northeast... JB's reputation on the OTR side ensures that I will never go that route, but I'd heard that DCS is a different animal.

For the most part they have dropped OTR. They are doing some, but mostly DCS and intermodal. They have some lease guys still trying OTR, but most are starving.
The guys I have met in my area (mostly flatbed) seem to be fairly happy.
But then they are in the same boat you are. The company's they were with are gone, or they were laid off with the loss of contracts. So they went to the evil monster that did it to them DSC lol.
Sorry I don't have direct info on them.

I've been on PPG dedicated with them for about 15 months. I like it overall but your experience will vary largely on which fleet manager you get and how you impress him/her.

Last year the fleet manager I had made me sit quite a bit and gave me disappointing weekend loads in the 400-500 mile range. That FM left to go to another acct and since then I've been very happy with my miles and the respect I get. I've been averaging 2300-2500 miles and they've let me run the load thru the house several times. I know a lot of other drivers who are getting only 1500-1900 miles so ymmv. I think staying out longer has helped me as well as my performance has been spotless so I get loads that are hot that they may not offer to others.

Pay for us on PPG started at 38 cents and goes up from there the longer you're on the acct. I'm at 39.5 now.
Other DCS have other pay packages. For a short time I was doing regional (on another acct) at 41 cents plus $10 per stop and was making around 950/wk M-F w/ weekends off.

Overall JBH is far better than what you read here at least as a company driver on DCS. Lease Purchase OTR is the worst at JBH those guys are losing their arse quickly.

    Baack Thanks this.

I'm unfamiliar with intermodal. DCS is really all I'm familiar with at JBH.

It's kinda ironic though. At the time I started at JB the recruiter mentioned intermodal out of Harrisburg (I live in Lancaster) but I was a couple months shy of their experience requirement at the time.

Sorry I can't help, but I don't want to speak out of my arse.

Roadkill, thats ok. I'm in southern york co. Over all it sounds like you like the job with JBH. One thing i'm concerned about. We had a vacation already paid for in July of this year. I wonder if they will let me take it still without pay?

I would think they would allow it.

As with most jobs if you let them know up front at the time of hire you have a commitment like a paid vacation they should honor it.

Evil is NO LIE!!!!!!!! My hubby LOVED and was well respected with the guys he worked for nearly 3 years before the evil DCS took over, cut his pay, doubled the insurance, and well, he's out of work now. Amazing how they turned a couple of open corners of some potting soil into an accident on his DAC.

DCS pays pretty well . I ran N.E conn. and NY. for Staples and Rite Aid They expect You to run and do it leagally. There is no room for error all incidents no matter how big or small go on dac. I cant say what will go on dac if you stink at driving. top out at .40-.42 mi may be more or less this was two yrs ago for me. biggist thing to remember they expect your all. good luck to all who dare....
