I am looking at making a change to become an intermodal driver with JB Hunt out of Haslet, Tx. The recruiter is telling me that I must start with overnights and working weekends either regionally or locally. He is saying that I can get weekends off and days within 6 months for local work and even sooner if I am willing to drive regionally. I am also being promised not more than 2 nights out a week if I drive regionally. I want to know if what he is promising me is accurate or promises that will go by the wayside if I accept the position. I appreciate anyone's help and honesty who has experience with this. I want to make an informed decision.

I have a friend (DavidBrownTrucking) that I got a job out of st Louis for JB. He was regional for about maybe 6 months or so Then offered a local position out of st Louis, He has been doing that for almost 2 years. He is an example of what your recruiter told you, But I don't know about his home time, I think he chose to run more and be home on the weekends. He works nights but you take what you can get to get that local op. I am sure you can message him on here if you have questions, But I can answer quite a bit.

@Ewil... So if you are offered a regional/local position, there is a possibility you will be driving locally after 6 months of regional? I just put up a post with similar concerns, because I didnt see this one yet. But I would love for you to give some insite on my post as well about the experience of your friend. The perks offered to the OP of this thread sound similar to what I was told. Only difference is my offer was for flatbed.

All the regional people on my acct are home every other night and do resets on the weekend. Most jb locals require 1 plus years experience so I don't see why they wouldn't just let you go local straight away considering your experience. Maybe they need a seat to vacate in your area first.

I would try to talk with the driver manager that runs that account or ask to be placed on a waiting list for a local job. I applied with them and all they told me was they had regional jobs available at the time. I told to put me on a list for guys wanting a local job, I didn't want to quit my job at the job because I was doing local. About a month later jb hunt called me back and told me they were hiring for a local job for an MBM foodservice account they had. The driver manager for that account interviewed me and hired me. They original wanted me on their OSH account because had 5 years of flatbed experience but I told them I prefer local so I got the local job instead. Every other Saturdays I rotate between intermodal, OSH, Mission foods, and Cargil just take make some extra money. If you get hired with them and they give you the option of working a Saturday on other accounts, I would definitely take that opportunity. You'll get to try of accounts and see which one fit you the best.

bump...... anybody have anything new to share about running intermodal outa Haslet? seriously thinking about it...

JB intermodal is the thing to get on unless you can find a DCS gig. Intermodal makes good money and get good home time pending on location
RookieJ1987 Thanks this. -
That depends on the DCS gig.
