Right now, I average about 10-11 hrs a day.
Years ago, I had a Pete 378 daycab, that I averaged 2500 miles a week in. That's quite a few hours, some which weren't logged.....zoekatya Thanks this. -
My schedule is all over the place. I average 10-12, but I might work 8 one day and 16 the next.

9-10 per day no logs no governor

How do you guys work 16 a day? I thought we could work more then 14 and drive ten. One guy said no logs with jb hunt or was he joking. Also how many miles would you all say you avg a day driving a day cab?
-
Lol i do 205 a day paid by the hour if where i unload theres a 2 hour wait no big deal i take a nap and get paid for it.
zoekatya Thanks this. -
I average 12 hrs a day but can run anywhere from 8 to 14 on any given day.
Miles run anywhere from 250-500 in a day on my job but there's a zillion different daycab gigs so there's really no way to pinpoint an average.
It all depends on the job, some guys haul garbage and some groceries, some haul steel some haul logs etc etc.
I haul barkdust, sawdust, hog fuel, woodchips, shavings and sometimes trash from the transfer station for recycling.Last edited: Jun 20, 2014

if he is local and less than 100 airmiles he does not need a log book up to 12 hours.

While running Intermodal for JBH in eastern PA, they always tried to schedule for a 12 hour day. The idea being that the truck would constantly be running with someone else using it the other 12 hrs of the day, alternating between two drivers. Of course the scheduling was a bit optimistic, so frequently days ran to the 14hr limit - had to use the 16 hour rule occasionally.
Management & dispatch at the local office was great, but they had no control over the pay rates. The pay was just barely enough to scrape by on, so I had to leave. JBH supposedly determines what they pay based on local cost of living, but I've researched this area and they pay more in other surrounding areas than they do here. They're looking for drivers here (between Philadelphia, PA & Trenton, NJ - closer to the latter) now with a $48.5K expected pay while they have a similar job out in York, PA right now paying $60K/yr - the cost of living out there is definitely less than this area (especially housing costs). Heck even in Harrisburg (a mere 30 mins north of York) has an Intermodal listing for $50K (not a HUGE difference over here, but still noticeable - particularly with the lower CoL). Not sure where they're getting their CoL data from, but I could barely make it on what they paid.
EDIT: May just move to Harrisburg due to this quick check I got from a relocation website:
Cost of living differs between:

[TD="colspan: 3"]In essence, if you moved to Dauphin County, PA and received the same salary you currently earn in Bucks County, PA, you would have an extra 9024 to spend as you see fit.

Bankrate.com and Salary.com say similar things. REALLY not getting JBH's justification for their pay rates now. Should have looked at this stuff sooner...
Even MIT says JBH's target pay of $17/hr was below "living wage" if you had even just ONE child!Last edited: Jun 20, 2014
