Why do day cab people get paid so much more then the typical otr or regional driver? I'm at Western and make $450 for otr but if I went day cab for say jb hunt I'd be making $800-1,100 a week be home every night and two days a week. If there a logic behind this pay system? Even otr jobs for jb hunt don't pay as much as the day cab ones. I'm trying to understand.

Not every local driving job pays well.My last one paid by the mile and no dh pay.Job before that paid by the load.Yes many do pay by the hr because they don't drive as many miles in a day that otr does.Don't believe everything you read. What jb says and does are 2 entirely different things.

If you think local driving is a lot better then what you're doing because the driver is home every night, you better think again. They work all their availble hrs and you better be ready to roll right when their 10 hrs are up.Not on a set schedule never know if u have to work Saturday till Fri just before the dispatcher goes home.Thats how it is here anyway.Local jobs here sucks as much as the pay does.

In addition to what everyone else has said.....day cab drivers are usually involved in the unloading process (this may mean just moving the freight to the end of your trailer or it may mean that you are required to bring it well inside the customers bldg.), and in many cases, they are involved in the loading process as well (no additional pay for unloading unloading). Some places make you work the docks too.

    $450 a week doing OTR??????

    :biggrin_25513:

Even with less than a year experience you can make double that working a full week with a better OTR company
