I just got out of 3rd quarter training in Chicago and they said JB is testing in 100 trucks outward facing cameras. So, you know it's coming down the pike.

####. I guess its good if someones tries that scam where the stomp on the breaks. I hope its not a live cam though that would suck.

Hi Ebola, outward facing camera's are great. I think it's about time. Can't argue with a video. Inward facing, they can cram it.:biggrin_25513:

Word, inward cam - that's way too much. Outward cam could protect us in situations where low-lifes are trying to scam us! :biggrin_25524:

I bought one from Diesel Boss. You really have to CYA in this day and age. As far as inward facing cams go I had a trucking company bothering me again and e-mailed them back. Told them there is no way I would ever drive for a outfit that has inward facing cams. Enough is enough.

The cellular network bandwidth needed to support live video feed from a truck cam is cost prohibitive. It's not going to stop it from taking a few shots every hour or so and sending it home so your safety experts can evaluate your driving habits and coach you accordingly.

The short and skinny on this is- no, but they will see snipets, likely.

They record events, hard braking, quick lane movement, impact....actually they record all the time, but they record back over anything thats is not flagged as an event.

It can still be a live feed.
Just recorded on to a flash drive/hd. If there is no event then it could cycled.

I'm not worried or upset about the cams. It is what it is.

During the class, we got to see one example of how it proved our driver did not cause a sideswipe. Unless it was the crappy video player (laptop) used for the meeting, the camera quality wasn't that good. It looked like it records at 10 frames a second at 720p, maybe worse. But I think it was the low quality laptop.
