Hi guys, a little help please! I've been OTR with Schneider 6 months and just got an offer fire regional intermodal with JB. I was just wondering what it really paid, the average miles a week, and home time. I don't believe recruiters at all and thought I'd ask the guys that actually do it! Thanks in advance!

Coachmoore44, I run intermodal with JB Hunt out of lithia springs. I'm an owner operator, but ran company side last year for about 7 months because my truck was down. First thing is, you'll run about 2400 miles a week on average - some weeks a little more - some a little less. It all depends on the trains coming into Atlanta. We run 350 mile of Atlanta - Valdosta to the south - Mobile to the southwest - maybe Meridan Ms to the west - Nashville to the Northwest - Greensboro Nc to the northeast - Darlington Sc to the east and a little bit of the florida panhandle. It's 99 percent drop and hook, with an occasional live load on a backhaul. As far as home time, I get home everyday except when they run me long - drop load in Valdosta, maybe to mobile for my backhaul - something like that. As far as pay goes, when I ran company side, I brought home something like $800 - maybe more if I worked an extra day. It's not a bad job at all - I've been driving 27 yrs and never thought I would work for JB Hunt - but they have this intermodal thing worked out. I hope this helps you out.

Thanks a lot, that really helps!

No problem - if you have any more questions, I'll be glad to help and much as I can - everything is out and back - pick up a load at any of the Atlanta rail yards, go deliver to customer, pick up your empty trailer, drop at backhaul customer, back to Atlanta. Good luck!!

Is there a lot of waiting around or is it just drop and go? Also, where do you park, at the yards our a truck stop?
-
It's all drop and go - we go into places where they'll be 50 trucks backed up to the dock - we just drop our load, get an empty, and out the gate. There is parking for all drivers at both the Lithia Springs yard and the Forest Park yard - more in Forest Park as Lithia Springs is mostly for the local drivers.

That's awesome, another part of OTR I don't miss... looking for a place to park and waiting! I live about 20 minutes from lithia springs so I may just go home...

They won't care if you sleep at home or in the truck. You set your start time everyday - let them know when you are ready to go. Normally, when you get in the truck, you'll have your load(s) already pre-planned.
DazzlinD4 Thanks this. -
That sounds really good!
