i just quit JBhunt last week-
i was midwest regional and over 8 weeks on the road my average mileage worked out to be 1324 miles/wk.
ALOT os setting around with thumb in ##*!!! lol
could never get appt times changed- they did change one one time -- they moved it back about 14 hours--LOL i was at thier chicago yard and they wouldnt let me T-call it and get something else to keep moving either. i sat in detroit for 48 hours once. ALL GROCERY WAREHOUSE FREIGHT! sat in a dock once in chicago for 9 hours because they dispatched me the load late(it was already late when it was dispatched)

i had a question about my pay and my dispatcher kept blowing me off and not responding so i started calling him and he finally got pissed off and started yelling at me-- never did explain what the deal was with my pay.

piss poor company to work for IMO.

i talked to another driver who used to work for them "last year" and came back- he said all the people were different. my dispatcher sounded like a 20 year old kid.
they want you to write a paragragh EVERY DAY on the quallcom about what you will do to be safe that day and they will bug the hell out of you for it.... you try to get anything else out of them though and you'll get no response--lol
they also make you call in every few weeks and listen to them tell you stories about how drivers can cause accidents and how you need to be carefull and they will shut you down if you dont call.

    NukedNative Thanks this.

they are know as one of the greatest companies???
    news to me-
i guess if you only think of how big of a company it is and only consider that, then i guess you can say that they are great for the people in the offices.
from a drivers point of view- they suck.
i talked to quite a few other drivers at some of thier terminals, and some of the drivers were happy-just about all of the happy ones were doing something where they were home often like intermodal-, or dedicated, most of the drivers i met were miserable and planning on quitting soon due to low income and ####### dispatchers.
i did hear a few OTR drivers bragging about how they get good miles because they ##### about short loads so the dispatchers just take someone elses load - give it to them- then stick the other guy with the crappy load.
in my opinion- a driver should not have to fight, complain, #####, and BEG for miles constantly.

I thought I only have read good things about Crete. They certainly have a family friendly passenger program and their starting wages are fantastic. Why are they being listed in the big 5 as if they are bad?

Also.. Hunt Midwest is related to Crete. Is Hunt Midwest related in any way to JB Hunt?

    Suzi,
Crete, I don't know how good they are, because we have never drove for them, but I guess you didn't hear about that Crete driver in Flordia who ran into a car parked behind a school bus while they where unloading children and pushed the car under the school bus, killing I think it was 5 children in the car, and he never hit his brakes, and now they are saying that he should have been able to see the bus and the car and that he only had a short nap in 38 hours driving time, sound like a good company to you still????

I don't see how we can assume that the company is at fault because the driver didn't follow DOT regulations. It's possible the driver was trying to make up for lost time because of his own issues. Maybe he was having financial issues and trying to make extra money. Or maybe he was running late or the truck had broke down. The possibilities are endless.

Even if the company was pressing to get a load in ontime, it is ultimately the drivers responsibility. So long as drivers allow themselves to be pushed around the companies will so it because the companies are not the ones out on the road. They can't know what's really going on. It's human nature to not be very trusting. They probably assume the driver is taking breaks and naps and that they aren't really hauling butt. It's no different in my line of work. People think I sit around watching tv and eating all day long. They don't think I really work.

That's terrible. But any company putting that many drivers on the road is going to have accidents and some will be bad.

    Suzi,
I know what you mean, and you are right about that...But some of the larger compaines do encourage drivers to run over their hours by demanding that a load be there overnight or whatever, and when a driver has an accident, the company steps back and lets the driver go down for it...I was just wondering why Crete refused to talk about the accident like they did, what ae they hiding?? That just bugs me a little, you know??

My husband had a message on his voice mail that said "call for information about an important driving career" Well he called and it was J.B. offering a job.lol.. So he told the guy that we drove teams and got anywhere from 6000 to 8000 miles a week. Got to give it to J.B. though the guy said "there is no way we can give you that many miles".
