Just an idea of how my afternoon was today in St Louis as a local intermodal. I did 2 crosstowns from the yard to the rail, 2 live unloads and 4 pickups. 11.25 hrs $236.16. Comes out around $20.00 per hour.

you beat me by 30.00 , but I only worked 9 hours.
-
One day I had last month I did one equipment move, 1 live load (load was suppose to be a drop and hook but they were still loading so I backed under the trailer and got paid for a live load instead of a drop and hook), 4 drop and hooks, got paid hourly for one hour for running a part out to the rail yard to fix a tractor, and I drove 433 miles. I made just over $320.00 that day...now that was a literal 14 hour day with me getting back to the terminal with 5 minutes left in my 14 hour day and that is not common. I usually make about $250 to $280 working a 12 to 14 hour day. Now if it's a really lousy day ie bad weather, accidents, getting severely held up at a shipper/s, held up at the rail yard do to a train blocking the entrance/exit for an hour, etc. I might make just $220.00 and work a 14 hour day...even less if it's winter time and really really bad out. That does happen...not everyday is a good day after all.

Anyone have any specific experience running local intermodal in SoCal?
-
They cut you back and regulate how many loads you get.
Start the week doing great, and all the sudden, Thursday and Friday suck.
Happens to everyone. -
I work for JB Intermodal out of Chicago and my miles or loads are never cut. I work Wed to Sundays. The only time when there isn't freight is because, well, there isn't freight or the is a delay with the trains but those are far and few between. With you being out of SoCal, with the importers near the ports, you should be busy most of the time.

At Hbg. They ran around the clock. I guess every terminal does.
But they said they had to spread things out so everyone could make money. Hbg terminal was run by very strict military ex state trooper dude.
Safety coordnater was a retired prison gaurd.
Management sets the tone for the terminals.
Good or bad. -
Hey Cody, I'm guessing you deliver some of the Reckitt Benckiser loads I pick up back here in Missouri???
-
Yeah Reckitt is a regular.
-
How far is it from the rail to where they get delivered? I'm guessing you don't go across a scale either. It's a 60 mile round trip for us to pick them up.
