Has anyone heard of JB now doing intermodal orientation out of green bay,wi. I was looking at their website and it said that. I also saw they are running a new intermodal run out of this area with home time of 2-3 times a week plus 2 days off and still make $65-80,000/yr.

I run out of GB intermodal. I am home 2 days off, the 2-3 times per week really depends where you live and whether you want to stop by the house.
Because of my time with the company, I make 0.44/mi, but with the incidental pay, I average 0.60-0.65/mi with 2200 to 2600 mi per wk (5 days). With the new pay structure (started in October), I am making a rate of $65-75k.Last edited: Nov 23, 2014

Is it correct they are doing the orientation in green bay now for this instead of Chicago? That would make a big difference for me since I live in Appleton. Do they have an office in green bay now to?

I don't know about orientation in Green Bay. To be honest, I doubt it is in GB and it is most likely in Chicago but I really don't know. We do have an office at Masterfleet in GB

Hi all, have been really interested in reading this thread on JB Intermodal. Is there anyone out there that works JB Intermodal in California? My husband is working regional OTR for JB and would really like to get local. I'd like to find out if intermodal is as good here in cali as it sounds in the mid-west and back east. It never seems to be, but I'd like to think there might be a chance. Thanks for whatever help you can throw our way.

Hello All. I just started about a month ago with JB Intermodal out of Chicago.
A little background on me might help. I've been driving regional in the midwest for since 1988. I have been a Driver, Dispatcher, Transportation Manager, Owner Operator (with 5 trucks) none of this time was with JB. During that time I was with a company for a few years hauling rail containers of all kinds except JB Hunt equipment so I knew the rail yards before signing on with JB last month (Oct '14).
I chose JB as I'm weary of hauling junk, crappy dispatch and the hypocrisy of so called safety programs. Their reputation as a large company concerned me but as I told the orientation people, the Fleet Manager and finally the Operations Manager that if they live up to everything I was told I would stay and eventually retire with them (I'm 49).
So far..... They have lived up to everything. Granted, I came in knowing much more about hauling containers then a lot of people so I brought every last tool with me and have only had to pop out 3-4 lights to replace and I've only used my hammer to thump the tires. Their equipment is far superior to any other I've hauled (or should I say forced to haul).
Ultimately, it's a job, though. I drive to maximize my hours. I set my ETA (AVAILABILITY TIME) correctly and use up my daily hours right to the minute, take my 10 off and am rolling again. It doesn't work perfectly all the time but nothing does in this industry. The key to that is proper planning and to do that: BUY A SEPARATE TRUCKERS GPS! Their GPS is helpful but works too slow and it's not good to help find a spot to park. I use the Rand McNally 720.
I will say that any problems I've run across with dispatch were something I did. I'm not one to shift blame and once I figure out what went wrong I realize every time that it was something I did or didn't do.
How much am I running? I average about 2400-2600 miles/week. I stay out 6 days and they route me home no matter where I am. I get home by late Sunday afternoon and am rolling again late morning on Tuesday (My choice to run those days). Btw, I run an area that encompasses Chicago, Green Bay, Minneapolis and Cedar Rapids with Chicago as the 'home' terminal. My pay? Hmmm still working on the details but I'm taking home on average $800+ a week. I have the max taken out for 401 and signed up with the legal plan, health insurance, etc. so figuring out my exact take-home is tricky.
Now, anyone using my post to decide, try and remember I have a lot of experience coming to work for JB. I'm not at a point in my life where I'm looking for the 3,000 mile weeks and $1200 pay checks anymore. Safety and consistency mean everything to me nowadays and I believe JB has that for me.JOHNQPUBLIC Thanks this. -
Welcome aboard!

Does JB intermodal have paid holidays? Or if the rail yards are open do the drivers just have to work?
NOEL2120 Thanks this. -
The office help might have paid holidays but the drivers? No. From my experience, they'll try to get you home for the big holidays but you can work them if you want. Like this past Thanksgiving, I got home 10pm Wed night and was out 6 am Friday. I don't know how the drivers who are off Sat and Sun did it (my days off are Mon and Tue).
