That right there makes you feel your job is worth it. It makes you want to run hard for them because they're cheering you on. And right now we're getting a $1.50 a mile that's an incentive too! In 60 days we get our truck. Finally get an APU. Then I don't have to write out my hubby's directions to the customers I can just print them. But like I said Sno, come on over. You probably saw us then because we were one of the JCT's coming out AZ. They had about 20 trucks that had loads to pick up out of Euro Fresh over there out of Willcox AZ. See, so you might of saw us.

It just dawned on me when u said AZ. That place is weird too. You pick up your loads in sections. You go to one door and pick up your tomatoes, leave that dock, then you go to another dock on another street and pick up your corn, then you leave that dock on go to another dock and pick up something else. cool, everything sounds great, it'll be an easy quit and join for me as the company i drive for now is out of tulsa so ill just have to get up the road a little ways lol, also is it a good idea to come there with a bit of bankroll to get urself started? ive never leased or anything before but im worried about the first few weeks and having to pay for fuel and stuff or do they kind of comp it until ur first paycheck rolls in and then just deduct away lol.

Also what are the trucks governed to? 65 i assume? And when u get ur first truck and start paying on it and then get the truck u really want how does that work? u just gotta kind of start ur lease all over and make payments on the truck u want?

And 1 last question, whats their deal with hometime? is it the standard 1 week = 1 day or since ur lease its whenever u want but u gotta watch how much u go home cuz the truck dont pay for itself in the driveway

It will be a few years before we are able to consider this, but I have some questions. What is a fuel surcharge? How does it work? You get paid by the mile, plus some money for fuel? Or do you get a percentage of the fees for delivery? This company almost sounds too good to be true and past experience in life has taught me to be cautious when I feel like that. The thought of paying hundreds of dollars a week for a truck payment, plus fuel, plus living expenses scares the heck out of me! I guess you are making money, but I have always worked for someone else so the unknown is frightening!

I will answer the fuel surcharge question from my understanding of what I have been told about it. Companies contract with shippers for a certain dollar amount per gallon of fuel. You will read some companies ads saying you will pay $1.25 a gallon for fuel. The fuel surcharge is set to give that end result in fuel cost usually based on 5.5 to 6 mpg. For example:

Cost per gallon: $4.33
Cost per mile at 6 mpg = $4.33/6=$0.722 per gallon
For a $1.25 a gallon fuel guarantee the fuel surcharge calculation goes:

$4.33-$1.25=$3.08 per gallon fuel surcharge needed
$3.08/6 mpg = $0.513 fuel surcharge


That means I need a fuel surcharge of 51 cpm to keep my fuel cost at a contract rate of $1.25/gallon.

Drivers can actually make money on the fuel surcharge by slowing down and increasing their mpg over the contracted mpg rate for determining the fuel surcharge.

I hope I haven't confused you more with this attempt to put in writing what has been explained to me.


Congress is trying to pass a law that will require 100% of the fuel surcharge to be passed on to the one who pays for the fuel. Right now, brokers have a tendency to skim off some of that fuel surcharge. The legal premise is that the broker is due a fee based on the freight rate ONLY. The fuel surcharge the shipper pays should all go to the one paying for the fuel as it is designed to stablize the operational cost of the driver (or company in the case of company drivers).

What is their pet policy?

Ok whoa slow down hun you getting a little ahead of yourself. Don't quit your trucking job you have now just yet. First you have to call JCT and talk to a recruiter over the phone and do the application bit. They will ask for 3 references and trust me they do call them. Then she will do a National check (if I'm saying that correctly) to see about any violations on your CDL. Once they are satisfied with the references and the CDL and all the ducks are in a row, when she tells you that you have been approved and asks you when do you want to start orientation, THEN quit the trucking job you have now. Once your set with your appointment for orientation you go to the motel and get set up. You do not have no roomates. You will have a room to yourself. Then you go thru your 4 day orientation and on the 4th day you get your 1st load assignment and your truck. When you get your first get it delivered in good time. One thing with JCT is (and I can't stress this enough) is on time loads. You mess up on on time loads and they will frown. The only exceptions for not on time loads is if your truck breaks down or bad weather. I don't mean hard rains what have you but snow. Another thing that came over the qcomm today was two more JCT drivers jimmied their logs and got log violations by D.O.T.. It happened to 3 other drivers a couple of weeks ago. This morning Jim Sr. (Mr. Christner's son) put on the qcomm in a nice way no more log violations. These drivers are looking at termination now. Mr. Christner will mention about it in orientation. How much do these jerks need to be told. I mean come on, you're suppose to be professional drivers and adults act like it. Now you asked about home time. What my hubby told me in his orientation someone did ask and the teacher or person who handles it says to give 10 days notice before the actual day you want to go home. On your truck like I said the 4th day you go out there you just basically grab something that's to your liking if you can grab it, but then you go in and speak to John and tell him the kind of truck you want with an APU. I can't stress that APU enough either and the reason being is JCT does a lot of runs to California and California has a no idle law. The payments of the truck just switch over from the one you are driving to the one you get. I remember we had to go to CA with the old company we were with and we snuck of somewhere quietly so we could idle. Our white cat would have been a puddle of milk with no A/C. He has medium fur length. Then if you like when you are at the Supulpa yard go see Jovita and she will fix u up with JCT T-shirts, sweat shirts, jackets, some other things. The jackets rock. All the clothes he sells there goes to the Diabetes organization. I just bought 3 t-shirts and a jacket. Finally clothes that fit. The jackets rock! I pictured owning one of those jackets before we even went with JCT. We drop trailers in the Utah yard (which is owned by England) the sad sap company we drove for. The JCT trucks are governed at 75mph. And as far as the bankroll goes we didn't have much money at all. We took all our resources to go with JCT. But we knew we were going with the number one company so we didn't care. For the first week we lived of cash advances. First with the pet policy you can have dogs and cats. It's a $500.00 dollar pet deposit that they take out in increments. With cats they will tell you to get them declawed. I disagree with that to the fullest extent. Cats claws are their defense system. Also you can cause the cat infections by declawing. I'm not doing that to our baby. To tell you the truth we told them about our cat but I think they forgot because they didn't take anything out for him. Second that would be seriously sweet with that fuel surcharge. Congress is right on that one. We do pay for the fuel so we should get fully compensated for it. And another thing about the fuel. In my opinion if some other lame brain thinks there should be a truckers strike I will say something. We can't just stop our jobs and our life support system. Tell the same thing to those mobile home trailers who use diesel. They're the ones who are literally abusing it. Leave the truckers out of it. They have families and homes to support. The ones who want us to strike, are they going to pay for the food in our stomachs, our mortgages and bills? No, they're just watching out for themselves.
