flat beat me to it but hes correct make sure you have the right measurement for that bracket cause they do come in several different sizes. Your truck is Not that bad. Some TLC and a little work and you should be happy.

i want that truck roadwarrior has on his avatar
if i'm gonna have smoke coming out my exhaust. i'd rather it be in the form of fire. -
I appreciate all the input! We took apart the skid plate and fifth wheel last night and the skid plate is getting sand blasted and painted in the morning. I think I'm going to go to work with a die grinder with a wire wheel on it and try to knock some rust off and paint some. Got 2 brand new Alcoa wheels and 2 brand new steer tires. Also going to jack the truck up tomorrow and take all 8 drive tires off, knock brake drums off, check drums and shoes, and rotate tires. Busy day tomorrow? Hah

At least your starting in the right direction , many would be wiring in the new STEREO , Surround sound , plasma TV , and 4 dozen CHICKEN lights.

I've never rebuilt a truck, but I have rebuilt a lot of old motorcycles (1940's thru 1980's) . And, a little bit of elbow grease and some "very fine" steelwool will work wonders on chrome.
A die grinder or a small drill, with a soft steel or plastic wheel, designed for removing paint, will work wonders on rust. Follow up on the small area's and fairly hidden or uneven area's with a can of black spray paint. It will hide a lot of ugly. -

It is fairly easy to go from "not looking very good" to "looking a lot better" :

Most paint supply shops can mix up a SPRAY BOMB to match your trucks paint for quick touchups until your ready for a full paint job.
DaltonR121 and 1958Pete Thank this. -
Got the skid plate done but dad wanted to do his also so we got his done and was putting his back together and now on his 07 W9, the fifth wheel acts like it isn't getting enough air to release and slide. We think maybe when we had it sand blasted, somehow that sand got in there and messed it up. Didn't get as much done today as I'd like but tomorrow we're getting my truck tore apart as far as the drive tires, fenders, etc, and I'm going to take a wire wheel and hit all the frame, prime, and paint it. THEN rotate the tires and all that good stuff. I'm just going to prime it all and paint it with a gloss black for now. Just try to make it look better. It's not a show truck, ya know. I like a clean truck and I'll do what I can to make it look as good as possible within financial reason. -
Please keep posting and updating this thread on the progress on your truck. This has been very interesting to read thus far and you are just starting.
