I haven't had time to get there today yet being I'm working. It's well off the road on the shoulder. I'll post later on the results. Thanks again to everyone for the input and quick responses.

Want to have your tanks checked for dye go to WI, and no, I have never been checked for it, even in WI. There isn't that much dye in ATF, anyway, and I have done just that where a filter had to be inverted before spinning it on. I'd be more worried about putting off road diesel into the filters to prime it.

You shouldn't need to do it with a normal, base on top, spin on filter. With a Davco, you can just pour fuel in through the top cap.

One time, I siphoned a little fuel out of full tanks into fresh filters for a guy with a Cat , when he decided to put on new fuel filters in a rest area, before figuring out how to prime it.

That was the only time that I have been checked in over 40 years. Some states used to be more active in checking fuel. I have not heard of anyone being checked in many years.

The tranny is connected to propshaft, the propshaft is connected to the diff. The diff is connectected to the bhlah bhlah bhlah. You get the pic.:biggrin_25518:

I have in Nebraska coming back from Idaho last June. They were bringing everyone into the scale and sticking a siphon tube (little 1/4" thing" down into the tank for a visual. I seriously doubt that ATF would have shown up on that test though.

They got carried away with the ether, wrecked the motor and now a tow truck is enroute.

You won't get a ticket for running atf in your fuel. What you will get is a ton of.hassle and grief until the test results come back and show it was just atf. They don't just look in and see its red then say here's your ticket. These fines are massive. They want to investigate into how long you've been doing it and what other trucks you have. They stop by immediately or shortly after to check out all of your trucks.

If you stay away from hauling anything that uses off road fuel or any Ag product you will probably never get checked. Pickups at auctions get checked the most around wi.

The carnival for our local fair was held up for 6hrs because the dot boys were convinced they were pumping fuel from their trailers through their trucks.

Ether isn't used in many starting fluids anymore. Any tractor/truck puller will tell you John Deere starting fluid is the best. And I don't like Deere at all but its true you literally use 3 cans if the other stuff to one pf deeres. But then again we go through a couple cans trying to get the low compression engines woke up.

Starting fluid is always dangerous in the wrong hands. Just like anythjngn. As long as it doesn't have any form of pre heater just pull the intake and use small short bursts while cranking.

If you can prime the filters on the truck with the primer, unscrew them and wait for them ti fill then tighten. This reduces contamination risks versus pouring fuel into them. Sometimes its unavoidable though.

I am sorry to hear about the motor. Hopefully, it won't cost too much to repair.
