Kenworth ran out of fuel and abandoned. How to get it running?

I am trying to get an abandoned kenworth running. The guy that was driving it ran it out of fuel. He left it and I am working with the owner to get it off the highway before it gets towed. What do I need to do to get it running. It has a cat c15.
I will assume it needs fuel put into both tanks and the filters primed. What else needs to be done?

That should do it, it will take some time spinning over but it should hit. You might see if it has a primer hand pump on the side, but I don't think they are putting them on any more. Enough fuel in each tank to get it above the suck tubes and prime the filter.

It does have a hand pump on it. How much is enough fuel?

No, just prime filters and put fuel in tanks.

so if it has a prime pump. the it must not have a primer electric pump.

starting fluid will get it to fire faster. without wearing down the batteries.

i have to use that trick when the oil gets changed. my primer pump isn't working at the moment.

How far it is to the truckstop to fill the tanks will determine the amount of fuel to put in the tanks, if it is closeby, 5 gallons in each tank should be enough. Since it has a hand pump, just pump it up after you have filled the tanks, it might even prime the filters for you, you will know when you are pumping fuel, it will start pumping hard.

I would not use the starting fluid in the new electric engines to prime the fuel. No electric primer.

It will take about 20 gallons,in each tank, a little less if the tanks are small, and check to make sure it isn't just 1 side that is out and the other is above the pickup tube. One pickup drawing air will lose prime.

I use a flashlight to look down into the tanks.

I just reread that earlier post, you still don't know that it has a hand pump, so be sure to prime the filters. I ran mine out at the truckstop fuel pump and had to spin it quite a bit to pick up the fuel, but if you prime the filters, it won't have to spin all that much.
