Truck was parked for about 8 weeks, now that I'm back on the road, I cannot get heat into the bedroom. In sleeper, the fan blows normal, but moving the "cool to warm" knob on sleeper panel has no change- ditto for the three position "max ac to I forgot, to max heat" rocker switch. Cab heat does work, although it seems that I have to move the temp control knob more into the red for heat. This may be due to the sleeper fan moving cool air around. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on where I might start looking.
    Thanks in advance.

maybe you have a water line going to the sleeper and the hot water is shut off.

Find heater hoses that go to sleeper. If they are cold to touch when engine is warm then a valve needs to be opened to circulate the water. If both are warm going into sleeper then you may have a damper or door problem.

    mje Thanks this.

    1. Verify the coolant valves that feed the sleeper are OPEN. Hope thats all it is.
Maybe someone shut them off summertime and didnt reopen.
    2. If these valves are opened, As mentioned, check the coolant lines feeding the HVAC unit in the sleeper. You can reach them from underneath the sleeper.

There is a small electric valve within the HVAC unit in the sleeper that also controls the flow of coolant.
They are known to go bad.
There are no damper doors on the HVAC unit in the sleeper.

    FYI:
    Settings on the sleeper switch:

MAX HEAT / AUTO / MAX COOL

I've had a multitude of issues with the unit. I replaced it (comes an an entire assembly from KW) and then replaced the switches and redid the wiring inside the panel. The truck had one issue after the next when it came to the sleeper unit.

I opened the bunk and the dam thing looked like it came out of the TITANTIC....

Lift the bunk, remove the plastic housing around the HVAC unit. On top you'll see a wire bundle plugged into an actuator which is supposed to move proportionally when you turn the knob on the control panel to adjust the temp blend. If it doesn't move when you turn the knob the actuator could be bad. It's about a $100 OEM part. For a temp. fix, you can remove the actuator and turn the blend flap lug by hand to get your heat.

    That valve is shot....

Many guys turn off the valves for the spring/summer as a result.

    FYI:
$1400.00 (best price I could find) for a complete 'all-in-one' HVAC unit.
The all in one unit has all of the parts - complete and ready to drop in with a new evap and heater
    core.
    Kenworth: K142-537-1

Mine was rotted...not repairable. Parts separately exceeded the all-in-one unit.

Thanks to all who replied- neglected to mention that I am the O/O of the truck, and hadn't shut any water valves, guess I'll be going after the actuator Vision Logistics mentioned. Thinking about that, I had pulled my sleeper floor mat out to install that Dynamat sound / temp stuff. While doing the floor,I also did the three walls of the storage compartment under the bunk. I moved that large bundle of wires around while sticking the stuff to the walls, so now I'm wondering if I possibly unplugged a wire......naaah, to cheap a fix.
By the way, that Dynamat was money well spent!!! My mufflers are under sleeper, behind the fuel tanks; installing the stuff eliminated a whole lot of heat & noise- Can't wait to do the cab.

Had a 1996 W900 with same problem- the sleeper HVAC was so full dirt, dust, mud, some grease, etc. I had to get in it with a water hose, then later dried it with an air hose. Cooled like a champ after, still closed the sleeper heat valves in the summer. South Lousy-anna's hot humid days will really abuse an AC.
