Yes, please do. I'm going to buy new truck and wish all this crap to be eliminated BEFORE I took truck from dealer. Thanks!

Those engines are also notorious for floating exhaust valve stem seals. May want to look into that as well. We had a bunch of the EPA 10 isx engines with the single cam floating valve stem seals, causing the DPF's to ash plug and causing oil consumption problems. I believe there is a new updated version of the seals.

yes they also have exhaust valve stem seals coming off, and the updated ones will also come off. how long ago did you have the seals replaced? you may not be out of the woods yet. cummins will buy time letting you think the issue has been resolved by replacing the seals. buy the time you realize you still have a problem, carbon packing, hi oil consumption your warranty may be up leaving you to pay 25% of the bill.

i guess if push came to shove. 25% is better then paying 100 %. albeit, not really fair either way.

I have a 2014 Pete 579 w/ a Cummins ISX 550/2050. This engine was built in September of 2013, so should have the latest and greatest Cummins "fixes" to a cm2350 CPL3939. It uses a gallon of oil approximately every 3,000 miles. I'm worried about contaminating the aftertreatment system (DPF). I realize the engine is new, and we only have about 12,000 miles on it, but is this to be a continuing problem or something that will correct itself as the rings seat? Just got out of a Detroit 60 Series 575 hp that used a gallon every 15,000 miles or so on a 20,000 mile service interval, and that's with nearly 1.5 million miles since it was overhauled. Anyone out there with experience with the latest ISX's? I already stopped at a Cummins dealer and picked up an oil consumption record form, but what else can be done? It doesn't seem to be dependant on how it's driven, it just drinks the oil. No drips/leaks or coolant contamination.
Andy Hug Thanks this. -
One gallon every 3000 miles is definitely not normal. What is the stock oil? Did you change it? What speed do you usually cruise? I would run it till 30,000 and watch what happens.
-
Stock oil is Delo 10-30. The add gallons have been Delo 15-40. No, it hasn't been changed yet, what with the add gallons, it's hardly turned color, and it only has, like I said, about 12,000 miles on it.
-
As to the cruise speed, we've varied it from 62 to 65, 68, 71, 75 and even across Utah, 80 mph. It has an 18 double over w/ 3.08's on 22.5 lo-pro's and we've noticed no difference in oil consumption no matter how it's been driven.
-
Im afraid during driving in period you should not go over 60-65. The wear period is critical. It just my opinion. 80mph is way too much for the new heavy duty engine.
-
It was about 95 miles @ 1525 rpm on essentially flat ground. If it won't do that in a full aero truck w/ only 5 axles at less than 80K w/o getting hurt there really is something wrong with it...
