    So i have couple question
    1. Do i have to cleaning DPF by sending it out to Commins?
    2. my truck has 480k so do ihave to maybe change it?
    3. How much does it cost
    4. How often do i have to clean it in Cummins?
5.does not clean DPF affect fuel economy?\
    Thank you!!!!

Is yours a four piece or three piece DPF? With the three-piece designs, you have to be especially diligent about checking the outlet for cracking, because they're prone to it... even if the cracks aren't visible, there'll often be a green residue.
They make a pneumatic DPF cleaner... I'll try to get the manufacturer and part # for you tomorrow. It just requires a compressor and 1/4" line.
Have you done your own DPFs yet? If not, I'd strongly recommend you go to Harbor Freight, and buy that $80 (and change) transmission jack they sell.... it will save you a lot of hassle, plus allow you to take off and install your DPF as a single unit, rather than having to do it all piece-by-piece.

It may not be the filter itself... the problem could be the inlet (with a three piece system, the catalyst is in the inlet... in a four piece system, the catalyst is after the inlet), a sensor, the outlet... have you had someone hook up Insite and pull codes? Also, when was the last time you cleaned the dosing injector, and changed the insulator and gasket?

Any service center with the Insite software can pull the codes and make an assessment based on those codes. The dosing injector is entirely separate from the DPF... the dosing injector is what injects diesel fuel into the exhaust stream before the DPF... cleaning it takes a wire brush, a 1/4" drive ratchet and either a 5/16" or 8mm socket, and a small pick... you undo the bolts, pull back the dosing injector... the gasket should fall off immediately... then you use your pick to rotate the insulator until it falls out... after that, you clean it out with your wire brush, replace the insulator and gasket, and bolt it all back together... on the Cummins engines for the year you specified, takes me about 15 - 20 minutes.. even less on the newer ISX models, where it's located facing out from the engine. Real PItA on the PACCAR MX engine, but not unbearable.

So I'd say get the codes pulled, and make an assessment based on those.

    Don't try it yourself.

Get it done by a reputable dealer- otherwise you're just wasting bunches of money.
