2005 w900l cat c15 acert. I have read several post on the issue and still confused. Sometimes when I try to start it starts fine. other times it clicks a couple times then starts. Today however it has refused to start until a few minutes ago when I went and tried it again. I also noticed earlier the solenoid was very hot and there was a funny noise coming from the battery box area. I don't think it is the starter because it sounds/works fine. Not so sure about the solenoid, and the relay I have read about. Where would this be located on my truck?

Check to see if you have power on the signal wire to the solenoid on the starter. If you do then you need a starter, if not then it is either the starter relay, located either in the battery box or on the firewall, or a bad key switch.

smallest wire on the starter that does not go to the main positive or ground studs. Should only have power while key is turned to the start position.
