I just bought a brand new t680 last month, and the front left brake started squealing really bad. I took it to the dealer in St. Paul MN where I bought it and the told me tjere is nothing wrong with the brakes and that I'm not braking hard enough. Now today it started squraling while changing lanes and turning left, and now periodically while driving. Called Wisconsin kenworth and they told mr to drive in reverse while applying brakes and "brandish" the shoes and drum. Needless to say it didnt work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have owned 3 trucks before this and never had this kind of issue.

If its getting squirrely with you, Id just take it back to one of their shops and insist theres something wrong with it and that they need to check it. Could be a bad bearing or something? You sure don't want no wheel running off with you.

Squealing is definitely metal against metal. I'd make them double check the wheel bearing tightness and make sure the side of the brake shoe metal isn't binding against the drum. That or the S-cam is some how hitting the drum. There would be a wear mark evidence in the drum if that's the case. Tell them to inspect the drum carefully.

It has nothing to do with brandishing, breaking in or braking harder. It should work perfect from day 1 no matter how you brake. They'll tell a driver anything when they are clueless, lol.

Easy fix would be not to use the breaks, like my dad always said if it broke don't fix it. You'll learn soon that all brakes do is slow you down.

    Condo,it depends on the squeal.
I had a trailer that if the pads were dry they would squeal worse then a pig.
And they were fine,no glacing on the surface, braked fine.
    And when it rained..................silence.

ps not saying the OP's brakes are like that.

Had another shop check out bearing and it was good, no indication on drum of metal on metal, no loose parts, looks like I got a squealer!

HaHa Yea sometimes I think dispatchers wish they wouldn't put brakes on trucks?

Yea the backing matte on one of the pads might be worn off or missing. If so, that will make it squeal.
