I just recently bought a T-300. I am having some problems with it so I took it to Cat for a scan. On the report are some questions. Mileage 299049 hours7533. 2500-2599 RPM 807 hrs. 2300-2399 683 hrs 2200-2299 683 hrs 2100-2199 572 hrs 200-2099 445 hrs and RPM goes down with lower hours from there. From what I read, looks like it was pretty well driven at almost max RPM most of the time. Is this normal?

Seems like a lot of hours for the miles. What was average speed? Five years ago when i bought mine it had that many hours with 750,000 miles, 47mph avg speed, 17% idle time. Rpms in the gears, don't recall mine being wound up so high for long periods. I think your truck has been wrung thru the wringer based off that ecm report.

I'd dump it, and get a truck with a REAL CAT motor in it.

Do you know what the previous owner used it for? Box truck, manure spreader, etc? Does seem like pretty high rpm for most power take-off applications, but that does rack up the hours with fewer miles.

Average road speed? Maybe they just didn't bother shifting.

Sounds like they ran the snot out of it. At 299,000 miles, unless it's been rebuilt, it will need it soon. I asked a truck repair place about that model engine once, they said don't walk, RUN away from it.
