2000 W900L N14. There is a switch under the left side of the dash near the clutch pedal area labeled Elec. Engine. Anyone know what its for?

I have a 2000 W900 with a Signature 565 Cummins I just bought a month ago, and I too, have that same switch labeled "Elec. Eng..." To be honest, I'm not 100% sure myself. I assume it has something to do with when they plug into data port to diagnose the electronics.

I ran mine two days and started having issues with electronics. Lost the throttle response (load of gasoline on too of course,) and had to keep shutting the key off for 30 miles of mountain turrain so it would reset, then it would run for 5-6 miles normal, and quit again. I did that 15-20 times until I arrived to unload.

Called my local shop but they were too busy, so I dealt with another one I never did business with and they got me in. I was on "high alert" once they started doing their diag testing, because these deals can get expensive quick if you don't pay attention. First thought was I needed an external wiring harness. I called my usual people to counsel with them...the harness is $900.00 for 4 feet of harness with about 20 connectors that run everything from sensors to fuel solenoids, etc. I decided to remove the harness, bench test it and see what happens. It checked out fine.

All things pointed after that to a faulty ECM. Still hated to believe that, but I opted to get one so I ran to Cummins and bought a new one. That was a cool $1,600.00 after programming the new one. Luckily that solved the issue and I was back to work the next day, after being down 1.5 days. Had I not been there to make a couple decisions, I'd have bought a $900.00 wiring harness that I didn't need. That's why I really despise electronic engines, but I've been around since throttle linkages were normal so you can't blame me for that.

I'll research that "elec. eng." switch some more and get back on that one...I'm curious too...If nothing else, I'll be at the KW dealer I use that specializes in Cummins and find out next Thursday for sure.

I feel like such a dunce somtimes. I own several trucks that date back from the 60's to the 80's, all manual fuel systems and no computers on board that I literally fix everything on them myself. I open the hood on this 2000 and just go blank, eyes glaze over, and I start to drool.

I have that white abs button as well. This is a toggle switch on the horizontal surface just up from that. I'm guessing W900Aowner is probably onto the correct answer.
