Check with a good diesel mechanic that you can trust, preferably one that works at a truck dealership so that they sees all types of engine as they're brought back for warranty problems or other issues.
I've a long time good friend who been a very good diesel mechanic for many years. He now works only on the electronics on diesel engines at a truck dealer off of 440 at Little Rock and I spoke to him just a few days ago. I asked him which is the best and worst diesel engines out there. He told me the PACCAR is by far the worst and your upkeep cost will be great. He told me at present time the Cummings are the best engines and they less problems. He said those that buy the PACCAR just keep coming back saying I will never buy another PACCAR engine.Kenworth #1 and poppapump1332 Thank this. -
As for oldhasbeen's post there, man I wouldn't trust any mechanic that calls em Cummings... If he can't read the big letters on the thing maybe he shouldn't be fixing or giving 'educated' opinions your engine or any others... -
PacCar Injector pump from my company truck at 325K miles
At KW in Springfield, MO now (hopefully done by this weekend!) they said the cam is destroyed, and are putting in a new short block under warranty ... Took them 45 minutes to diagnosis, not thier first one ...
I prefer to drive a Cummins ... But no telling how my company has it cut back either ...Cat sdp Thanks this. -
@325k miles in a Cummins, you'd better have enough for the rebuild coming up around the corner.

Our paccar mx13 engines are 2013 models. The one that has 313k miles on it came back from kw monday and went back to the dealer yesterday. They are extremely underpowered. Ours are rated at 455hp but you have to keep it in the 1500-2100 rpm range or else you'll take 3 minutes to go from 0-60 with the 3.36 gears and 10 speed auto. I love kw trucks, but not the paccar engine
