I would suggest finding all the books for your setup..... They contain valuable information and are a good read if you need to kill time....

usually this message on an ISX is about the EGR<<disconnect your batteries for about 2 minutes and see if the C-engine light goes out,,doing a disconnect will reset the engine ECM,,if it comes back on do it again until you can get it ti shop,,sometimes a check engine light will come on going down hill with the jake on,,this is sometimes excess crank case pressure because the crank case filter needs replacing,,the filter is on the drivers side at the front of the engine(if pre-DEF engine)
Watch dealer shops,,when a check engine light comes on the want 2 hours labor to "figure out the problem" smaller shops will do you better,
If you are in Utah a great Cummins ISX shop is in about a mile from Salina,UT off I-70 called Mason Diesel they are great and know ISX engines very fair shop to deal with,,they will plug into the ECM and a lot of times if the fix is simple tell you how to fix it your self,,

as mentioned most likely an EGR code..sometimes you can tap your EGR valve a couple times with a hammer and it will free the soot in your EGR valve,,worked for me a couple times until I could get to the shop I use to replace it,,A dealer will try to get you to replace more than you need and do their best to get as much money out of you as they can,,Kind of like going to a Stripper Bar..all they care about is empting your pockets.

What type of engine and year check flash codes than google code to find problem I suggest registering on cummins quick serve online it is free and it will take your engine serial number and than you have all manuals for free!!!! there are several ways now a days to get flash codes if you have an info center on the cluster there a control on right side of sterring wheel on the column. if not look for a switch labeled DIAG this will flash out codes via check engine light . Or put cruise switch on and use accl/decl switch to flash out code. count the blinks this is your fault.
The fault code will flash in the following sequence:
First, a WARNING (yellow) light will flash . Then there will be a short 1- or 2-second pause after which the number of the recorded fault code will flash in (red) STOP. There will be a 1- or 2-second pause between each number. When the number has finished flash ing in red, a yellow light will appear again. The three-digit code will repeat in the same sequence.
The lights will continue to flash the same code until the system is told to do something else. To go to the next fault code , move the cruise control/PTO switch momentarily to the RESUME/ACCEL position. You can go back to the previous fault code by momentarily moving the cruise control/PTO switch to the SET/COAST position. If only one active fault is recorded, the system will continuously display the same fault code when either the RESUME/ACCEL or SET/COAST switch is depressed.

When "see operators manual" shows up it is most likely an emissions issue, egr, dpf or scr etc.
