So while looking over my truck this afternoon getting rdy for a run in the early AM, I discovered the following: IMG_2725.jpg IMG_2726.jpg IMG_2727.jpg

This is on the rear axle, I was looking at it last week and it seemed the rubber bushing was working its way out, checking it today it is completely gone. I've got a 650 mile run in the early AM, 1/2 of it is empty, other half will be about 43k on a 40ft container.

Am I ok to run this, or should I be getting into the shop asap?

If you have to ask you should get it fixed and you know it. When you saw that it was showing wear you should have scheduled a repair instead of waiting.

How did I know that was coming. Issue is am out in the middle of no where, this run gets me back down to Kansas City. The truck started to feel like it was wondering around a bit on the road, thus me reason for looking things over.

I'll see what I can do to get this fixed, do I have to replace the entire arm or just the bushing.

Yeah the bushing is there for a reason. So without it, the piece can't do it's job correctly.

It probably won't break, but you're going to have some extra axle movement and increased tire wear. Get it replaced ASAP. Any spring shop can press new bushings in and have you back on the road in a couple of hours. I had both of mine done on a '98 Pete, and if I recall correctly it was under $300 for the whole job, and took them about an hour and a half.

Fix things as they need it as it puts strain on other components and it turns into a horrible $$$$$$$$ chain reaction.

get the whole assembly from Freightliner. I replaced mine with sythentic rubber bushings. got them at Freightliner @ Phoenix Cheaper than rubber and longer lasting. It will change the alignment of the rear axle.

Gah - didn't even think about that - so am going to need an alignment as well? Was just reading about the poly bushings the new arms come with.. Good things..

Also, so everyone can relax, truck goes in tomorrow at 7am to have this fixed. Will have to bobtail about 45 miles or so to get it there, but shouldn't be a problem.

Just wish to say thanks for everyone's feed back on the forums here!

Yes obviously that is bad, but yes you can still run it to the shop to get fixed, if the back one is bad so is the front one i bet

It wouldnt hurt to pwr wash the fifth wheel and give it a nice coat of grease also:biggrin_25525:
