Has anyone had any good experiences with this engine or is there only bad to report? I know about how much trouble they have been but just wondering if the only thing that gets press is the bad stories, there has to be a few of these engines that worked like they are supposed to.
I talked to a friend (a CAT mechanic) and he was saying he is only seeing basic maintenance issues when these engines come in and not the big issues being reported. So my question is has anyone had a truck with this engine and only needed routine maintenance or just didnt spend months in the shop getting repairs?

Thats the problem. You cant trust the mechanics. You go in for one problem and come out with something else. And the old problem is not even fix. They want more money more money and dont get the job done. It use to mean something when you could say i got a cat under my hood but now , not so good

As a mechanic those engineers gave you job security. You should buy them steak dinners lol.

well maybe so. But like everything else it runs out. And truckers move on to something better than a cat. So enjoy your steak while you can.

just had a overhead done. my jakesd for one day. anyone have any ideal what could be the problem. i am thinking springs maybe out. i have done have 6 and 2 but four is work. if anyone could help let know

Your jakes quit working? My MBN C15 has a pacbrake. One time a spring broke and it made a fluttering, sputtering sound when I used them on stage 3 but there was no braking. It cost me about $300 when the local CAT house diagnosed and fixed it. They went ahead and replaced all 12 springs while they had the valve covers off and were in there. The springs are cheap. Most of that cost was labor. Don't know if that's your trouble but if so it should be pretty easy for them to diagnose and not break your bank too bad to fix it.
