Hello hello, I need a bit if knowledge here guys!! I drive a 2005 W900B Kenworth w/isx530. My h2o gauge drops to below 100 deg when idling at 900 or driving with no weight on! But when I idle it high (13-1400rpm... I work in northern Canada) my gauge climbs to operating temp usually about 170-180degrees, or when I load my tanker it operates normally.
Now my query is... Why? Why does it drop to the bottom of the gauge? Is my gauge starting to go? Is it a sensor in the engine? Could it be my thermostat? Should I be concerned! It seems to be running fine! Pls get back to me ASAP!!

I don’t know about the big truck diesels but the LD 6.2 chevy I had did the same thing. If I started it from over night and let it idle for an hour it would not get up to normal temp only if I drove it and that was with the grille covered 100%.
I chalk it up to not working or loading the engine so it will not make any heat. If you have an exh. gas temp gauge you can see this, as soon as you put a load on the engine the EGT goes up.
My truck also would not build any boost (Gail Banks turbo kit) till it was under load also, I had both boost & EG temp gauges installed.

I agree with zinita ↑ ↑ ↑ ↑ ↑ , but also first verify your actual coolant temps by running (idling, parked, radiator cap off) with a simple probe thermometer, which you can get at any auto parts or heating/air supply store. Test your coolant temp in the radiator at idle and then at 1500 or so rpm.

What's the ambient air temp of where you're presently at, and driving thru?
