Hello, ive been driving my friend 2007 Volvo vnl 780 for the last couple months that he got for a steal at 15k, ive done all machanic work on it since then thanks to advice on the volvo forum, my family offered to give me the financing to purchase my own truck since they see me every week doing something to the volvo, its a good truck but at that price had alot of issues but keeps me running, they want me to get a truck that will be dependable, not expensive to repair, and most of all to be mine if ima be making all my repairs anyway. Well i went to the lot where my friend bought his truck hopping to get a similar deal. I found a navy blue 2008 Kenworth T2000 with a cummins engine and a auto transmission, think its the i-shift or speed shift dont know if there r different ones for it, its in good condition, i just didnt like the wide super single tires, other than that it seem to be a good truck, been looking around and a 2008 runs around 30k+. They wanted 24k for this one and dropped it to 22k. Ive seen there were a few recalls on some kenworths and peterbuilts, but then again theres recalls on all trucks. Just want to get an opinion on this, and facts to if they will help my decision. After i buy i cant just exchange or buy something else... this will affect the next 5-10 years of my life... thank u for ur time...

Depending on how much dysfunction you will have to endure for family-financing.

If your good with a wrench.

Sounds like it might be a deal.

The i-shift is a Volvo/Mack product and it won't be available in the KW, so you'll be getting something other than what you're used to if you've been using an i-shift.

You didn't mention how many miles. I've just got rid of my 06 Pete 387. With only 420,000 miles . It had a ISX 450 Too many problems to mention, but in the space of 6 mths the turbo went, then the EGR valve and cooler, then to cap it all, the head......yikes. That was the last straw so I've just bought a 2015 cascadia with a 500 detroit.
Behind the scenes there's trouble brewing for Cummins. I know this because in the process of talking and working the deal with freightliner, there's legal action being taken against Cummins.
Their engines are not holding up with the emissions. Piston design is apparently a problem. Massive oil consumption. Even with more recent engines. Cummins are doing their best to keep this under wraps. Can you blame them. This is going to cost them dearly.
With the 2008, you have a year plagued by EGR regen problems.
Needless to say, I'll never buy another cummins, but as usual YMMV. Buying any used truck is a crapshoot.
    good luck.

If its got DPF, I'd avoid it and get something pre egr which would be 2003 and older. You wont have as many problems as an 08 which should have the DPF and EGR combined. If you are as good as you say you are, take my advice and get the 03 and older truck. You get some deals on those trucks.

As for an older truck, is the interior different? ? The exterior seems the same, and how good r the older engines? Are they cummins as well? Should i consider Cat, or Detroit?

If you can find a 60 series Detroit that would be your money maker imo,I have a04 with a cat , to be honest these trucks are cheap I'd go with a t600 but up to you

Yeah, I wouldn't be too keen on an 08 aftertreatment system... that's when they used the old four piece setup, and it was a real pain in the nuts. Cleaning a DOC and DPF in an of itself isn't terribly difficult.. but you also need to be able to reset the aftertreatment maintenance so it can re-map the fuel data.
