The heater fuse keeps popping in this k/w 1999 W-900L. Its a company truck used for hauling gravel. The mechanic told me he doesn't have time to look at what the problem might be. Any ideas guys??

bad blower motor.engine compartment, upper passenger side.must take apart heater box to gain access to blower.unplug orange power wire.fuse should not blow.takes a while if you have not done before.be careful, truck age tells me heater box is probably falling apart.new one is $1200.good luck.

Yep, if it was or is a gravel truck, it's been subjected to a lot of vibration, and somewhere a wire is touching, or besides the motor, check the fan switch. I usually check the part that gets the most use, like the switch. Otherwise, as Quality sez, it's probably the blower motor. ( or, put a piece of aluminum foil for a fuse, and see where she starts smoking)( Just kidding, don't do that, although, I know someone that did that)

If it's very cold, you could always refuse to take it out. Not so safe freezing your behind off trying to focus on conditions. Get a different tractor, one with driver comfort?

The mechanic told me he doesn't have time to look at what the problem might be If I ever heard 1 of my mechanics say that he would have plenty of time to look for a new job, in the winter HEAT is important to driver comfort and safety

Thanks everyone for the input, I told my boss about the mechanic, he is currently looking for a new job. And my truck is in the shop getting fixed
FLATBED and "semi" retired Thank this. -
Boy, FLATBED, you got that right. Mechanic's can be the laziest shiftless ilk, that are masters at putting things off. Years ago, I knew driver's that would pick up the mechanic by the collar, and rattle their cage for not looking at something, and I tell you what, they never did that again. But, those were different times, and who knows where that kind of behavior would get you today.
You have obviously never worked with me, I've been doing 65-80hr weeks for six months turning a fleet around. The previous mechanic here was pretty bad, and I've taken this company from about 60% uptime to over 95% despite their financial issues, abusive drivers, and the bad conditions in the oilfields.
The only time I've ever refused to do a repair was when a driver wanted his seat replaced due to a cigarette burn that he put there. I had other things to do, like figure out why a truck shut down every time the work lights were turned on."semi" retired Thanks this. -

Like DRIVERS you get good MECHANICS and not so GOOD MECHANICS, just got to weed them out and SEMI RETIRED was correct how the weeding use to be done at times , today a different story
