I recently came across a 2009 W900L with a Cummins ISX 485 with 1650 torque, 10 speed, and 3.55 rears. We have been looking for a truck for a good while to go in under our own authority. Been trucking for 25 years and it's time to go as a owner op. But anyways it has like new drive tires. The truck has 712K miles with no rebuild (pretty sure) and is in great shape. The truck came from a local company in which they traded their trucks in for new ones. The truck does qualify for warranty. My main question is what can you turn up a 485 to? For example a 475 Cat to 550. Can you turn the torque to a 1850?

Volt what are you hauling to need to turn up a truck in hp for and anyways you'd probably most likely can turn up the truck but at 485 horses at 80k gross you can run atleast 65-80

Plan on pulling box or reefer. I want a truck that will do 70 all day long. Not a 75 down hill and 40 up hill truck. I've drove a 475 Cat with 1650 torque with 10 sp and 3:70 rears and I hated it!

If it's a Family 1 Cummins you can probably only go to 450/1650. Chances are it's a Family 1 if it's a 435 now. I had a Family 1 450/1650 13 speed 3.55 rears in my Prostar and it was a good setup. Good fuel mileage set up. Not gonna be the fastest thing up the hills, but solid set up.

Depends when going up a hill 3.55 rears 13 speed cat thats good but I don't stick my neck out for caterpillar the cummins if you want to do 70 with 80k all you need is probably at the most 450 10 speed cascadia or prostar or whatever fits your style but 70 mph could get a you a ticket on some highways and city's

If the EGR cooler and Turbo has red paint on them, plan to replace those in the next year. May as well replace all the engine sensors for good measure. Pull the valve cover and inspect the camshaft for the normal ISX wear. You may also get to replace the clutch soon.

You are buying that truck at the right time to sink money into it.

I'm running the 425hp with an auto 10spd and 2.64? rears and i can roll over 80mph with no issue loaded over 79k. It takes a couple of miles to get from 75 to 80 but it gets there.

And a cummins will pretty much out pull anything going up a hill as long as you hold it until you hit 1150 or 1200 rpm before down shifting.. If you down shift earlier, then you'll loose all of your speed and find yourself over behind a detroit with your hazards blinking trying to climb out of the hole you fell in.
