I've been an OO for over 40 years, never driven a speed limited truck, and I'm not a fast driver. But I do like to have it available when I need it.My truck has an N-14 500 Cummins 15 speed, had to have the ecm rebuilt last year, and the company that did it asked if I wanted the same parameters.I said yes,I remember one of them was 99mph,lol.I'll never go that fast, but It's nice to know the power is there if I need it.No,I don't go into Canada.

All you have to do is take it to the dealership and have them set the top speed for the vehicle.
-
The dealer will also pile/on all the latest smog settings as they adj. your top speed.
-
Govern it at 70 and maybe 72 throttle or 68 cruise and 70 throttle.. 70 is plenty fast for passing purposes.

As for me, hiring another driver, they'd have to really earn my trust before I turned them loose in a wide open truck. I'm not advocating cutting them down to 62, I'm just not going to put someone I don't have 100% absolute faith and trust vested into a wide open truck. Quite frankly, I wouldn't call it a wise move on the part of the guy who had me run OTR for him in a wide open truck - not because I'm not worthy of that trust, but because he really didn't know me well enough initially to know that I was.rollin coal Thanks this. -
Never seen a diesel engine without a governor in my life.At over 3k rpm's your pistons would be knocking your valves shut. -
He said for Quebec, which is 65. So the tough decision is balancing the risk of the driver being caught speeding and getting 2 citations, and the chance of being inspected and checked and getting a ticket.

Every time you see a company ride that the speed limiter has been obviously tampered with you see an employee driving it stupidly. Most employees just can't be trusted with anything that will go faster than the speed limit. They will drive recklessly and/or get tickets ruining all important and hard earned safety ratings. I think cutting one back to 70mph is being awful generous. 68 is where i'd set anything I had hired help driving. It's plenty fast enough to get around most every other truck out there and there's no point in burning up my fuel trying to race with the 4 wheelers. I drove a governed truck for almost 10 years first it was 66mph and then they cut down to 64mph. It's not a big deal and you get used to it. Anyone who wants to drive an unlimited truck can go buy one and cover the costs on their own dime.
Straight Stacks Thanks this.
