Hi, i am from philadelphia, pa and is looking into a new career in the trucking industry. I am a 25 year old woman single with no children. I figure while I am young with no family I might as well start now on my career plus I feel as though it would be great chance to see the country. I am looking into starting road master trucking school in columbus, ohio within the next 2-3 weeks. I have looked into the companies that they sponcer (well should i say recrute from that school) which is Werner, Stevens, Covenant, CRST, Swift, TMC, US Express and KLLM. I have seen the the best reviews from KLLM. Has anyone ever attended Road Mater Trucking school and how was it?? does anyone know the dif between the companies I just named compared to KLLM?? As a single woman with no family to look after or go home to and wanting to do cross country driving will I make great money. How much does KLLM start you out with once I get out of training. If I decide that I dont want the 2-3 days off at home and I want to continue out on the road driving will they allow it?? What are the pros and cons of being a trucker especially as a female. I am a new driver also, I have only had my license for 2 years in april 2011 so what pointers can you give me being as though im about to drive a tractor trailer and the only truck I have driven was a Ford Wrangler pick-up, lol. As a newb what is the least and highest amount of money i can make (digit wise please, before and after taxes). How is the insurance benifits. And last question, if anyone knows the dif saleries compared to the other companies named above whats the dif if anyone knows. Thank you. And if anyone have any other advice of poiters you could give that can help me or anything to help me get ready for the schooling to pass my tests I would truly aprieciate it.

First and foremost.... check into WIA funding because roadmaster is CRAZY expensive....

Now... as far as getting used to driving big trucks... then main thing you will realize right out of the gate is how quickly your perspective changes from driving a normal car.... as the "professional" it is up to you to monitor not only your driving, but those around you....

I have been driving since Sept, started with KLLM in October. And thankful I went with KLLM. Not saying they are perfect, but they have been up front and honest with me, treated me fairly, judged me on my merits, and shown me respect.

Here is what I have learned about the other companies you are considering based on what I learned before I signed with KLLM.

Werner: MASSIVE company. probably will never run out of freight... but if you dont want to be just a number.... I would look elsewhere.

Stevens: CRAZY long training.... but at the end, you will be able to back up, blindside horseshoes in your sleep. other then that, I heard (rumor) that they treat their drivers like dogs

Covenant: after training, you will be FORCED to run TEAMS with a stranger for 6 months.... after that you can opt for a solo truck.

CRST: aka crazy retarded silly truckers.... other than the funny name, I know nothing about them.

Swift: Sure Wish I Finished Training (enough said)

TMC: I as hoping to get on with TMC initially. I liked the idea of flatbed... as a means to stay active... TMC is a good company.... though they tend to be a little anal about their trucks... (they dont allow ANY extras/inverters in their trucks) if you decide you HAVE to have gadgets... I would look into Maverick. TMC is VERY militarily structured.... Maverick is more chill.

US Express: All automatic fleet.... the debate rages on manuals vs autos... my advice?...go manual until you are capable.... you can ALWAYS go auto in the future... but if you go auto out the gate, you will be hindered when trying to go manual down the road.

KLLM: I know a few female drivers at KLLM. Not unheard of. If you have any questions about KLLM, feel free to ask me... I will be more than happy to answer.

starting out, they will pay you as a student $400/week for training. After upgrade they will pay you $.32 per mile. I have a whole thread devoted to my time at KLLM so far.... feel free to look it up.

if you have further questions.... feel free to contact me. Will PM you my cell # since I am only on this forum twice a week lately.

CRST is all team driven. If you can sleep in a rocking, bumping, jarring top bunk during the day while someone else listens to music in the cab with only a thin vinyl curtain as a wall... Then go for it.

me, no thanks. I'm solo now, will be solo for ever. Unless I can find me a chick like Lisa Kelly to team with... rrrrrrrroww.
