I few recent threads in here have mentioned KLLM pushing for the majority of their fleet to be lease operators. Just to verify I spoke with them about me working for them. I asked About the makeup of their fleet and it was explained to me KLLM has company drivers, but is pushing for a majority of thier fleet to be O/O or lease. So consider this before you sign on as being in your future.

I am interested in the lease purchase. I talked to them a few weeks ago and they said all they had in my area was OTR. At the time I was looking for something regional but that has really limited the choices. Does anyone have an idea of hometime with them. I talked to one of their drivers at a dock a while back who said he hadn't been home in 9 weeks. Is that what it takes to make it with them?

I know a driver for them, from what I was told you can stay out that long if you choose. You have to tell them when you are ready to head home and give them time to find loads going in that direction.

Well, start thinking into lease a truck too. My husband is an independent O/O. Our truck is little old for a team driving. It is 2002 Columbia. So I figured if we sell truck and trailer and go for lease with KLLM, pay off the truck and then see if we wanna stay or go independent again.
I would really appreciate input from current team lease drivers.

I AM a current KLLM lease driver... so please allow me to clear up a few things...

    1) the company is NOT forcing anyone to go lease. currently about 55% of the fleet is lease, and while the company has said they would love to see a higher % go lease, they understand that some prefer the company route. (a friend of mine is a company driver and to be completely honest, I pressure him more than the company does about leasing...

    2) I started out company and through my own questions decided to go lease.... and very glad I did... but the company did not initiate that...I did

    3) company regs, are that you earn 1 day home for every 7 on the road.... (for company drivers)..... for lease drivers, you can take as much or as little hometime as you want... (remember though, the truck payment STILL gets paid one way or the other.)

    4) look to my thread I started about leasing with KLLM for more info

Do lease drivers get any fuel discounts at truck stops or terminals?

I will be leaving KLLM. That is sad. But the only trucks available for lease are 2008 Columbias. And we needed a truck for team.

Me and my husband own 2002 Columbia and dry van trailer. He been driving as an Independent contractor, but truck is getting old. Leasing relatively new truck so we can drive together was our idea. Pay it off in 2 years and work for ourselves again. Leasing 2008 Columbia with 400K minimum for team driving is not that good. At the end of lease truck will be done. So we will drive our old baby till the wheels go square. KLLM is good company and I still suggest it to anyone.
