Yes, reefer is known having delivery hours around the clock. It makes planning your 10 hours off, a little tricky.

Reefer customers also seem to think nothing of making you sit around for hours waiting to load/unload more than other types of customers.

Of course other types of freight, I.E. dry van and flatbed can have 24 hour appointments to, but not as much as reefer.

This is due to the fact that alot of the freight in reefer is very time sensitive. Especially produce, they want to unload it off of your truck and get it on their trucks and out to the stores as fast as possible.

Just an update: This company has been more than what they promised me. I have found my way here. It is a very good paying, and decent company to start with fresh out of school. am not too sure about OTR, LP, or SouthEast. I know that the rail position is perfect for ME. It took me a minute to find the info I was looking for, but I found it. Good money fresh out of school and cannot complain. Goodluck to you all...

Wow, KLLM has no intentions of running legal. They are migrating to E-logs and have the balls to use the "off-duty driving" function in the drivers logs. That function is for owner ops who drop a load off etc and then bobtail home so that it does not affect their 70. They tell company drivers and others who do not keep up with laws "just wake up during your 10 hr break, hit that key, deliver; (you're driving illegal by the way), get it there on time, we'll gladly look over and beyond your little log violation and the world will be good. I got tired of that crap. I'm not running illegal anymore. They will push you to get to a certain delivery area within a time limit which is not easy to make. No truck parking within 20 miles and you can't stay at the delivery point to take your break. What do you do? You have to jump a county line, possible a state line...maybe even a time zone to deliver during your ten hour break. What do you do? You're 2.5 hrs into the sleep (if that's even possible and entering your REM sleep). Surprise; time to get up and drive illegal!! 03:45 appointment. Your dispatcher is at home sawing logs in his or her bed, all the fancy people who send out the nasty safety macros are also at home slobbering on their pillows and snorring @ 120 + decibels.

Driving the truck is easy; dealing with all the BS that's associated with it is where the problems begin and more often than not end. Just a shame.

That log audit department doesn't even know where that truck is at my friend. They've pegged me several states away in different time zones, called me; I laughed at them. They don't have a clue.

Home you have a nice day and drive safe, I'll cyou out there!

You guys are scaring me. I am planning to go with KLLM. I have already talked to the recruiter etc.. He said we are more of a family type of business. He also said we don't push lease purchase on new students. Pay is .32 cents a mile. Being a rookie your choices are very limited. The good companies don't hire rookies.

Don't let that recruiter blow smoke up your a_s and tell you lies. You are a $$ sign to him. All they have to do is bring you on and they get $$. What happens to you and where you go from there; they don't care; they see so many people...it's a constant revolving door with companies like that. A family type of business? Ok... Go with your gut feeling is all I can say. Sounds like company drivers are being phased out from last I heard. The person who pushes you to lease may actually be another lease driver or one of your friends who drives for them. There is a nice little under the table cash advance type of "bonus" for people who bird dog other drivers into the lease program. That person will promise to put lets say $500.00 on your comdata card. What happens if he doesn't? Do you report him? It's all under the table, back alley Salley, less than honest crap that you don't want to get involved with anyhow. You will be pushed to lease is all I can say. That is the great American rip off and shame on the people that fall for it. I wouldn't lease a weed wacker let alone a semi with almost a million miles on it (which has long since been paid off multiple times).

Go with your gut feeling and inside instinct. You may not be right, but you may learn something and turn it into a positive experience in the end, who knows. Drive safe though whatever road you go down. !!

Lie #1 - they will push that lease HARD on you after the first six months as a company driver. Why? They're paying the note for a company driver, whereas if you're a lease driver, YOU are paying the notes, fuel, insurances, etc. That's one of the main reasons that I left the company - after I decided that I didn't want to do the lease, that's where my miles dropped from ~2800 week to about 1500.

Ask your recruiter if they still reimburse for tuition and see what he tells you. He (or she) will paint this real nice picture (kind of like what the military recruiters are trained to do) and blow more smoke but in reality; you will not get reimbursed for anymore than $100.00 Along the line, they will find something wrong with you or your truck or a late delivery (because somebody who has never drove a truck before doesn't know how to properly use a calculator) and will yank that with no rhymm or reason. You're better off just claiming things like that on your own taxes at the end of the year as schooling costs.

Never met anyone from KLLM that has been reimbursed for tuition like they were promised; and I've never met anyone who has actually paid their lease truck off who can show me the title to that truck.

All a bunch of smoke and mirrors I'm afriad. Drive for a few years and see if it's for you. Most people don't have a clue what a drivers lifestyle is all about.

Still with KLLM. Been here for a little over a year now. Things are still going well. Just received my student reimbursement check difference. Loving it. Besides the wack medical plan and wack retirement plan, not a bad company. I am a satisfied company driver.
