Was a pretty strong week until the bad luck hit again. Was getting some awesome 600 mile overnight runs until Thursday night. Unloaded in Warren, MI then had a pickup in Toledo. Hit a lot of traffic on my way to Toledo, then the shipper in Toledo took over 4 hours to load me. my delivery appointment was for Friday morning and there was no way that I was getting there legally. I was going through DC and I dont mess around with that VA scale just past there - Ive had a few log checks and an inspection there.

So I parked it hoping that I could get an evening appointment, and yet again more traffic. Four different wrecks on the OH/PA turnpikes with all of the construction held me back even more, so now my appointment is for Monday morning. Total bummer. Had about 2,000 miles going into the weekend, but oh well.

Last night I stayed in Breezewood, PA at the TA. Got bored and went for a walk - found the stretch of Turnpike that has been abandoned since the 60's. Walked for a good 5 or 6 miles exploring it, found the Ray's Hill tunnel which is also abandoned. Was pretty interesting. I took plenty of pics, will upload when I get back to my comp.

as for now, im doing a 34 in Ashland, going to watch the race and see whats around here tomorrow. one of the hotels here runs a shuttle to the amusement park north of here, so i may bribe my way on that.

These slow as manure shippers and receivers are really starting to piss me off, especially when it happens on both ends of the trip. just took 5 hours for these jokers in Virginia to unload the trailer, during which time I was told that I couldnt unload it myself. just wanted to get out of there faster. now Ive missed out on two different trips, one with great miles, and Im back to where I was for the third day in a row - the Richmond TA. Of course theres no penalties to these people for taking forever, instead Im staring down the gun of only getting 600 miles in 4 or 5 days.

Got stuck sitting last weekend, this weekend has been the exact opposite. Delivered a load somewhere in Jersey on Thursday, dispatch then hooked me up with a 2100 miler. Badly needed too after basically getting 600 miles from Thursday to Monday last week. Put in three days of 600 miles (which takes me about 10 hours to do, ugh), ready to do the process of the forwarding company and such in Laredo tomorrow.

Crossing my fingers that I can get another big run like that. Was nice staying this busy!

New addiction: audiobooks. Listened to both The Last Juror and The Confession by Grisham this weekend...definitely more interesting than just listening to the same ol crap on sirius everyday. Found a website that does rentals for audiobook downloads, probably going to be paying them a lot in the future!

Yes, I would not lease. I've talked to many many lease drivers who are in the process of paying off the truck. I have not talked to a single ONE who actually has and now owns the truck etc and can give some details on the other side of the story. Seems like all the lease guys start to disappear after they get close to paying off the truck that's already paid off. Funny how freight begins to dry up once you own the truck. That continues to be; to this day...the great American rip off. They approached me with leasing; I just laughed.

Just parked to start a 34 hour reset in Beloit, WI. completely bone dry on hours for my 70, so I'm parked till Friday. Last run I had was from Laredo to here, barely made it on time. Glad I did though, paycheck will be great.

Don't know where I'm headed next, probably won't tomorrow either. This truck is getting close to PM time, and should have been turned in to lease purchase. Wouldnt mind getting my paws on one of those new Cascadia's that keep passing me...

Left Wisconsin on an Oscar Meyer load to the caves in Springfield. That was quite and experience. Pretty awkward angles to get backed into their spot as it was up against the wall and pointed at the pillar, but it got in after a few pullups. Drove from Springfield to the Joplin 44 for the night, now waiting for the shipper of my next load in Carthage, MO to call me and let me know when my next trailer is ready for me then Im headed towards Atlanta.

It just dawned on me that I'm headed home for my birthday weekend next week. I have only 11 days till I go home! Yikes!

sounds like ur hangin in there! surprised they didn't take that 2100 miler off of ya and relay it with a l/p guy. the company drivers are a dying breed there, I always felt bad when they would relay my crappy ld with a good ld off of a company guy. I was also a trainer there so i would clean up alot of messes too from guys who couldn't get there on time.
