You know I can't agree fully with that, right!?!?
The way to make money, not just driving, but in any job, is indeed work ethic and the drive to succeed. I tell everyone that if you want to make money you have to rely on yourself, not others, to keep moving. Know the customers, where they are, where others are around them, pick up and delivery days, and where loads go. Then be proactive in keeping your truck moving. Don't wait for someone (ie:your dispatch or the load planner) to send you your next trip...let them know ahead of time when you will be ready for it. Always try to have a plan BEFORE you need it. Always pick up n deliver on time. Be safe. Show them your work ethic. This helps a lot.
As for no life outside driving....I think most of you who know me know that I make money AND "stop and smell the roses". When I'm working, I work...I have been getting between 3200.and 4200.miles in my 7-8 day cycle for the past 6 weeks. I have also taken a few mini vacations in that time. This job is what you make of it. No, you won't get rich, but you can make money.

OK that sounds good to me ! I was wondering how they did things there. I appreciate all the information. I'm looking forward to getting back on the road again.

I haven't had any problems with them. They have been good to me so far *knocks on wood*
JoeTrucker69, Red Hot Mess and Pmracing Thank this. -
Folks I've been a L/P operator with them since January on the OTR side of the house and while I have had good weeks and bad weeks, the good have exceeded the bad. Now understand bad weeks can be caused by poor managers or load planners, and with the influx of new and nonroad experienced office staff can and will be a challenge for any driver, as drivers we also have a hand in good and bad weeks. It is up to us to make the most cost effective business decisions we can then go after the company to fix their end of it.

Unfortunately yes you do see that, but even worse are the super trucker attitudes of some of the drivers in orientation. I laugh when I swing through a terminal and see all kinds of drivers sitting around waiting for the perfect load.
