Very cool pics. Used to breed/raise Appaloosa's, (Dad started in when I was about 12). Miss the horses, not the work! :biggrin_25519:

I just finished a refresher course, put in an application and was told KLLM is not hiring until maybe the end of May.

Feel your pain, definately. Most companies shutting the door, requiring jumping thru many many hoops, physicals, reaps, testing and refresher courses. I was told I needed 40 hrs. driving refresh after they drug their feet for the last 5 weeks trying to get me in...it's enough to make one homicidal, and I'm not even voilent! :biggrin_25513: Good luck everyone else out there trying hard to secure an orientation.

I'm really liking the lease program. Even after Ipay all my expenses I am taking home a lot more than I was as a company driver. The O/O dispatcher is very good to me and easy to work with. My only gritch is night and weekend dispatch- when they tell me to swap out I now ask a LOT of questions because they seriously jacked up a swap they had me do.
I picked up in Laredo. The load had one drop in TN and finaled in MI. The timeframe was going to be tight but I could make it. Just north of Austin, I get a message to take the load to the Dallas yard to swap out with a team. I'm not overly picky so I went on to the Dallas yard to swap out. I sit there for four hours waiting for this team. :biggrin_25511: They get there and it is a student / trainer team and the student does not have her HazMat endorsement...and my load is HazMat. So we sit there another hour while night /weekend dispatch panics. :biggrin_2551: They send me another 250 miles up the road to swap out with another driver. That driver, a solo, doesn't get there until 7:30 the next morning. :biggrin_2554:
Now my load is for a large company and is going to the company itself. This is a company that is large, well known, has been around a long time, is very stable and we could do well to pick up some additional business from. The load I end up with in the swap is a broker load from a company I've never heard of and is overstock that is going to storage in a cave in Missouri.
In the end, I get the load to Missouri there early. As I'm waiting for them to unload me, dispatch accidently sends the new appointment information for the TN/MI load to me. They had to push the appointments back 24 hours...so that load was an entire day late when I could have had it there ON TIME. In addition, I lost about 400 miles on the deal which would have been OK if it had meant the load was delivered on time- but it wasn't. :biggrin_25510:

They tried to swap me out the next weekend and I told them to meet me down at Bessie Mae Cooler's and we'd talk about it :biggrin_25516: (ask someone who speaks Spanish to explain it to you if you don't get it...). Let's just say that that swap didn't happen. :biggrin_25512:

But everything else is great. I have to run home this weekend to take care of a problem :biggrin_25510: (it is an issue that absolutely sets my frickin' head on fire - starving horses...not mine but someone I know and it has been going on for several years now. I have had it and I guaran-freakin'-tee you it will NOT go on for much longer. The fan is cranked up and the Ex-Lax arrived yesterday... I will be picking up the two worst ones this weekend and they will be going directly to the vet.)

Well I got a big surprise yesterday! KLLM called me and want's me at orientation in Atlanta on tuesday May 12th. I guess a couple people dropped out and they asked if i could get there by then and of course I said YES! Now I'm scrambling around trying to get everything in order before i get on my flight monday. If there is anyone else on here that will be in Atlanta for orientation tuesday let me know. I'm really looking forward to getting started as KLLM was one of my top choices to get back into trucking.

    RoadToad69-
Hope you get this message soon, but I am going to be going through a driver training class at a local college where I live. I have read a lot of your threads about driving for kllm and like what I hear. Also have looked at there website and like what I see. How are they about hiring new student drivers? What is there pay like once you are solo. I live in Illinois do you know if they are hiring in or around that area now? Thanks for the help.
