Mann you ought to have heard me about cry when I was on my first solo trip. I couldnt back up to dock door I called dispatch, ask them if they would call and get a guy to move his new hummer outta of the way. They told me to take my time I would get it. Well after an hour and a half I got it. Mann come to think of it they never sent me back to that place. Everyone has stories they could tell about their first days solo driving we should start a new thread just about this.

Gee, I wonder where Haulin' is? Oh I know, he's drivin' his butt off!!! That is if I remember road training. I'm sure he's getting his fair share of far away places unknown. Hope you're doing OK Haulin' because you probably won't have alot of time for posting here until you settle into it after a couple of weeks. Hope you got a good trainer.

I'm sitting here in North East Texas waiting to deliver in the AM. Drove here from Mobile, AL, up to Jackson and then Shreveport to here. A trip that should have only taken me a few hours here and there, turned into alot of hours and a night at a truck stop after leaving Jackson. The rain was very hard and intense through Mississippi and north Louisiana. It slacked up today in Texas, but still rained the entire trip. The heavy rain made for interesting driving on I-20, and very stressful at times. I beez one tire truck driver. The Reciever has a big lot, so I backed up to a door and parked it for the night.
The only thing you can do is SLOW DOWN and keep your following distance. A woman in a pick up truck spun out in front of me on the Interstate today. She was following another truck so closely that when he did a light swerve to avoid a cardboard box in the road, she didn't see it until she was right on it. She jerked the wheel to the right and slammed on her brakes. Needless to say, in the rain, she did a 360 degree spin in the road and then a 180 degree spin on the shoulder. Thank goodness for the "Smith System" 6 second following rule (which I increased in the rain) and I simply slowed down and made a light swerve around her. You could see her eyes still bugging out of her head and her mouth wide open as I passed.
Man I wish this rain would stop. It started raining in New Jersey all the way to Virginia, then most of the way to Alabama, then here to Texas. It just hasn't let up. I've gone through a gallon of windsheild washer fluid, because the rain starts and stops just enough to cause that dirty mist on the road that messes up the windshield and you have to push the washer button.

Haven't heard from the "Toad" lately or Ledbetter. I think the Toad might be moving during her hometime, and if I know Led, he's just drivin' the wheels off.

Good stuff, newbie! Just like someone told me when I was three months solo: "you are NOT a newbie anymore". I think your actions and precautions in the rain are proof of that.

Wish I could get a spot at KLLM.

Last week of training. I got one of the not so great trainers. I am his personal driver. I have one more week until I upgrade and we haven't even gone over the folder that they give you after orientation. That is my biggest worry.

After my second day on the truck I was given the wheel. I drove my full 11 straight while he got caught up on the PS2. He drives about 4 hrs. a day and I pull the full. I have one week to get ready for the study for the test while driving 11 straight. Between him fighting with his wife, and ######## about the Co. taking money out of his pocket. The truck is his and he rules the roost.

Oh, well I am making lemon aid. Wish me luck. We have to run again.
