Anything that is metal in the truck should be grounded like the dash framing. I'm pretty sure they don't have a neg. pole in the fuse box.
The thing is you better know how to size your wire for the load you are using. I'd suggest an inline fuse properly sized for the inverter too. Don't want to start a fire.

okay, I feel the need to explain at least my own decision to lease, and what I have seen in the contract itself (you know, that pesky little legally binding thingie?)

first.... no one at KLLM pushed, or even hinted to me that I should lease. I started asking questions from current lease AND company drivers.

there are a couple things that have caused me to rethink my stance on leasing through KLLM. One of the first things I saw was that there was a turn over on the company side well above 70%.... and yet on the lease side, the turn over was well below 30%....

When I found out that KLLM's lease is really not a lease in the truest sense of the word, I became intrigued with what it actually was (is)

yes, I hear drivers talk about how they dont get miles... how the company sucks, how KLLM is going down.... yet, they are always the SAME drivers I see each time I am in the terminal... these drivers talk and talk and talk, yet DONT run.... or trash the company while never acting on leaving the company....

KLLM's lease is really NOT a lease... because you are really only taking over the payments that KLLM is paying on the truck...(at less then 8% interest), AND, KLLM doesn't turn a profit on the lease payments themselves (this is binding in their contract with Daimler Financing)

also.... if KLLM is late on even a SINGLE payment to Daimler.... the lessee has the ability to PULL the lease from KLLM and deal straight with Daimler, thus allowing them to become independent AND keep the truck with the SAME payments and interest.... this too is in the contract.... (so much for KLLM being the next Arrow)

most shops charge anywhere around $90 per hour to work on a rig..... yet KLLM charges a flat rate of $70 per hour for all lease drivers.... (so much for the arguement that KLLM rips you off in the shop)

at the end of the lease... the driver can buy the title from KLLM (Daimler) for a whole $1.00. (no balloon payment). one dollar and you get the title

now.... this article goes on to ask...

Keep in mind this question: If there was so much money to be made by owning a truck, why would the company be trying so hard to sell you theirs?

From what I have seen (through asking questions), it is more profitable for the company to deal with O/O and lease drivers than company drivers because or two things... insurance and liability.

a company will save a fortune on not having to pay for health insurance, workers comp, liability and the like.... BUT, also because running lease drivers and O/Os protects the company from high $$$ court cases....

(if a company driver gets a DUI and hurts someone in the process.... that company is on the hook for sometimes millions)
(if that same driver gets a DUI but is a O/O, that driver is on the hook because he is an contractor, this limits the $$$ the company would have to pay out)

Also, if I decide 4 months down the line, that leasing is not for me... I can hand the keys back to them without any negative action on my credit OR my DAC.... (yes I invest in the truck during that time, but I am also getting more $$$ per mile)

all in all... from reading the contract, listening to lease drivers at KLLM, and asking questions... I feel very comfortable in trying KLLM's lease agreement.

KLLM has been nothing but upfront and on the money with me since I came here.... and while others smack talk, claim the company is folding, etc.... I can take a look around, interact with the staff in Jackson, and get a GOOD feeling about the people I have chosen to work for.... and I will hold this view until I see or experience otherwise....

    thank you for your time....

nope... read every point... just wanted to take my time in my response.... :biggrin_25522:

I dont claim to be an expert... nor am I claiming KLLM is perfect... I am committed to staying as humble as I have been these last few months, listening, soaking things in, absorbing knowledge....

I hope I havent given any of you the impression I am ignoring your advice....

(also)..... I just crunched the numbers on my last week (2400 miles) which WOULD have been more but I had to stay pretty local to Jackson for the lease purchase class).... on the company side I made just over $768 ($.32 times 2400 miles)

. If I had been a lease driver and AFTER counting my payment on the truck, insurance, qualcomm fee, and etc of $505 per week.... and what I paid for in fuel.... ( $988 ) I would have brought home $1238.... again... this is AFTER I made my payments.... (2400 miles times $.88 per mile plus $.37 fuel surcharge on loaded miles, truck payment, insurance, and fuel)

    hmmmmmm

I hope your right and that everything works out on the lease, I just hate seeing all these new drivers run out and screw themselves on a lease...

Keep us posted on how it goes, you might even want to start a thread in the KLLM section, I know at least I would be intersted in hearing about whats going on and how KLLM's "new" lease is working out...

How did you only spend $98 in fuel for 2400 miles?

Oh, ok. I thought maybe you were siphoning fuel from other rigs in the middle of the night or something.
