knight refrigerated must be getting desperate!

Looks like Knight has 'cheated' on their treating the dry van & reefer divisions as separate companies, as was their 'staunch' policy when they started the reefer division back in my days.

Altho, I did fly out to DFW, then catch a van to Denton, and p/u reefer gray Pete cabs for underload driving back to Phx for prep (Knight stickers, bunk heater, cab top cowling/fairing, governed down, etc.) several times. Trucks could then be registered in AZ as 'used' and not new...another way Knight saved some $$$. When I flew out to p/u, was given Reg/Cert Book, Xeroxed sheets with truck no./DOT info) to duct tape on fuel tanks, a Prepass (recycled), Lic. Plate (also recycled) and zip ties to mount on radiator, along with a logbook & my maps book. Got paid $80 for fly out day, and took 2-days to 'legally' drive back with a load (usually, Miller Beer out of FW). Didnt make much money on that 1100 mile run, but it broke the monotony of the usual OTR routine.

I did see some red Knights carrying MT reefers back on occasion, but a rarity---never saw a red truck carrying an actual load, tho. The reefer division with their carrier liabilities for ruined merchandise due to improper temp reg, were sticklers on reefer training, etc.

BTW, it was std policy to slip trucks if vacant more than 3 days when I was there---that's one way I got my trucks as an Express driver---but, occasionally (which I hated) they would put me in a co. driver's truck if they were on vacation---whether, they cleaned their stuff out or NOT. Didnt like doing that since I ended up feeling responsible for their valuables!:biggrin_25512:

BTW, many, many Knight drivers had stuff stolen out of their tractors when they had them sitting out by the Phx shop for work. Used to have to leave unlocked w/the keys in per Knight shop 'orders,' and Knight never did pay the drivers for their losses!:biggrin_25513:

still their policy to leave keys in truck and unlocked at some terminals.. others have an actually drop box.. but once again, each terminal is it's own.. i was also told they compete against each other also.

Is K & M affiliated with Knight? I see a local ad for drivers from K & M and can't find them on the "complaint list" so I was wondering if they are affiliated and if not, does anyong know anything about K& M?
I am still a wannabe doing my research. Planning on school soon in January.
