Most of you Know about my history with Knight refrigerated.

For the benefit of those that don't, I will recap my enslavement, oops, experience briefly. I was an indentured servant, oops, driver out of the Columbus plantation, oops, terminal for 11 months.
I was RIGHTLY terminated exactly 1 year and 1 day ago. I admit to having a REALLY ugly scene with a shipper which culminated in me being banned from their facility and my subsequent firing. I reacted poorly to the manner I was treated by the shipper.

Fast forward to yesterday's events and the subject of this thread.

I get back into my truck and see that I missed a call. I recognized the number but couldn't remember why. They left left a voicemail. It turns out to be my driver manager from Knight, wanting to "touch base" and could I call him back?

My first thought was they think I owe them money! But the voice was too friendly for that. Needless to say, curiosity required me to call him back. I knew nothing had changed at Knight when the 1st call I placed, I was hung up on. So I call again and was put on hold for 3 minutes!

Well, now I'm committed to seeing what they want from me, so I endure this nonsense. I finally get my former DM to the phone, we exchange pleasantries and I ask him "To what do I owe the pleasure of your call? ".

He wants to know how I am, am I working?,,,

I ask if the terminal manager knows that he is talking to me, IIRC, I was fired and didn't leave on good terms.
    Code:

He says Yes and my name came up as an ELIGIBLE REHIRE???!!! (WTF? THEY FIRED ME! )

I told him if they would match or beat my current job maybe I would consider it. After I told him what I had, he admitted there was no way he could do better. I told him I was flattered and VERY surprised he called!
He went on to say if I was ever looking for work in the future to give him a call.

Either I wasn't that bad of an employee or, most likely, KNIGHT IS GETTING DESPERATE!!!

Hate to burst your balloon of being flattered, but it's the latter---Knight is desperate!

Most drivers who leave Knight do so on 'bad terms.' I didnt, but I played it cool and only sporadically showed my disgust with them.

There is no shame or dishonor with trucking co.s having big turn overs like Knight, and your old DM would make a commission from re-hiring you. BTW, Knight has a high rehire percentage.

But at least you know that you are not a safety risk, as that is the ONLY grounds for not being rehired...EVER! :biggrin_25523:

I'd of had to consider the possibilty that they were trying to set me up. Particularly near the holidays. Hire you away from an existing job just so they could fire you again and further damage your reputation. Some people actually are that devious.

Knight calls back everyone. Those that quit on good terms, bad terms, and even the ones that got canned. Basically anyone that remains loyal to Knight is stupid, retarded, lacking self-esteem, or all the above. Of course that's no secret given the hundreds of pages of smut thats contained here on Knight.

This company wants you to quit and reapply after a six month time lapse just to transfer to another division (reefer, intermodal). What kind of "in house" opportunity is that? Are you wanting to simply transfer to another terminal because you're moving? Another pain. And don't get me started on the things that you would have to do just to get a pay raise. I've been here for over a year and still haven't had my other reviews; just the 30 day review that came after I was with the company for five months. Am I a good driver with decent performance? Am I a bad driver that needs to improve? The feedback was very little and severely lacking.

I wanted to remain positive and have nothing but good things to say about this company, but I can't bring myself to it. Good kni........er, good riddance! (less than two weeks, woo hoo!)

Just a year. Any more of my life wasted here would be unforgivable on my part. Most drivers don't stay here that long. And then, EVERYONE (fellow drivers) that I've ever talked to "just started with Knight", wtf.

Drivers are getting hired here and quitting after a few months. Red flag right there or not?

I even made a thread about my experience with fellow drivers a while back: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/knight/122269-driver-retention.html

I recall reading it. That was my experience as well. It was extremely rare to meet a HAPPY Knight driver and even more rare to meet a happy Knight driver that was there for more than 1 year!

I've been here a year ,I'm home recouping from surgery I needed and in 2 weeks I'll be ready to drive. I work the reefer side and I have a great DM and terminal manager. I work out of Columbus .I've had some great loads and some crappy local runs but if thats all they have in the area I'm in,its better than sitting and they've been more than accomodating to me if I was in a jam. Fact: Ive always gotten home when I've wanted to and I've always been paid what they've owed me. they know I'll drive 600 miles a day, they know I'll be on time and they know i take care of my truck and trailer. its not rocket science guys,, If you do your job you'll be ok. My only gripes are the shops at certain terminals and breakdown calls. sometimes disconnecting the batteries wont solve the problem. and no,they dont give your truck to someone else after 3 days at home.
