Just got out of a 387 Pete and into a Prostar. It is smaller inside than I remember, of course that Pete is like a living room on wheels. It is also way quieter than I remember. This is my fourth Prostar I have had since I started driving. I have to say that I do like them, especially over a Volvo.

I thought the Volvos were fairly roomy as compared to the 389 Classic Pete's (flat-tops) I drove while there. The fuel tanks on the Volvos were small, being 65 gal and 90 gal tanks, which I believe was to get the overall weight down to somewhere around 18K-lbs. Where the Petes had 2x100 gal tanks and weighed around 19.5K-lbs.

How big are the tanks on the 387 Pete's and what is their gross 'roomy' weight?

The 387's weigh about 200lbs more then the volvo.

Bet they have bigger fuel tanks..the Volvo's range as opposed to the classic Pete's was much less, which is a negative when driving CA

I like driving the Volvos, but the 389 Pete's were a much better 'machine,' less plastic and more chrome and better gauges! Is the Pete quality carried thru to the 387's??

    So-so, the 387 is basically a pete body on a T2000.

I dunno, I started with a Volvo with Knight, begged and begged to be put in a "Square Hood" Pete, finally did.

Compared to the Volvo, it was the difference between a KIA and a Cadillac. In my opinion, everything in the Pete was Quality, everything in the Volvo was Cheap.

Then the Pete came up for retirement, and I was given a Prostar. Better, IMHO, than the Volvo, but still nothing like the Pete. But, I guess, unless you buy your own truck, all companies are going to cheap plastic good mileage trucks. Can't blame them, of course, but it makes for a worse driver experience.

If you ever get a chance, just compare the sleeper curtain on a Volvo to the one on a Pete (or even an International), that will tell you all you need to know about the quality difference between the makes.

I'm a driver for Knight, and I drove both the Volvo and the ProStar. Now i'm 6'4 and weigh 230lbs., so size and room are a big deal for me. I will go with the ProStar over the Volvo. Even though Volvo is lighter, it doesn't have mush room for my legs. Tilt/Telescoping steering wheel is great, but there's a bar next to the driver door that I constantly bang my leg on getting in or out. Same with the overhead console above the dash; constant banging of my head. In the sleeper, I can lay straight in the bunk, and my head will touch one end, and my feet will be flat against the other end. On a ProStar, there's plenty of room for my lanky legs to move around in, and same for over my head. Cab is quieter than a Volvo, and the bunk is roomy for my whole body. Top bunk is stationery, but is better than constantly bumping my head in the Volvo. I drive a ProStar with a Cummins engine, which is a MUST! Downside: Knight went from 10spd to 8spd; BLECH. Also started getting in Cascadia Evolution as another option. AND, by February 2015.........Kenworth T680 might start making appearances here.

I have been doing the squire program here in Memphis and talking to some managers here. I seen that in the yard they have some the the brand new internationals in auto and 8 speed. have not seen any new Volvos or Freightliners yet. So Knight is looking at the KW T680?? Wow, That is awesome.
