Ran many Volvos/Centurys/Petes w/Knight over 5 yrs as Express and never had a batt problem--ran my TV/laptop off of a Cobra 400wt Inverter, as well as had an electric 12v cooler (but usually only 'on' while engine running).
Auto batts are NOT meant to be 'deep cycled' as marine batts are designed for and so continually running them down (using while engine 'off' so as not to keep them charged) shortens their life... -

I drive a Volvo. Its been in the shop many times. I've even have had the batteries replace.

Volvo does have a history of electrical probs thru the years...does Knight still buy them with fuses for trailer lights vs. the resetable thermal circuit breakers (which were optional)!? Means need to carry a supply of fuses to troubleshoot a trailer when picked up with shorts on lights...Last edited: Jul 30, 2013

I'm sure they still do. The volvo's had four brand new batts when they came in and they would take one out and take all the new virgin rubbers off and put used ones on. The petes were pretty much the same except they had to leave 4 batts cause of warrenty issues. The internationals have 4 in them if I recall correct. I never did ever care for their idea of doing these things.

You can pretty much forget about running a laptop and/or TV on battery power. It will not work and soon you will be left stranded. Knight won't call a service truck. They expect you to walk around the T/S begging another driver for a jump. That's why back in the day many drivers would yank the temp sensor and idle the truck until going to sleep in their oven or freezer. My webasto heater would never make it through a full night. Waking up in a 40 degree truck is not a good feeling at all. The hardships this company creates all so they can save a buck are only topped by the drivers that defend their practices.
Scoots Thanks this. -
Sorry it has been a REALLY crazy week. I left out with a load on Monday not the chassis are bad we cannot control that just nature of port and chassis, I had 1 blow out and 2 loose the treads. Made me late stayed night in Fontana yard, made it to Rancho yard dropped and went to port to grab a load to PHX, well that load was nowhere to be found 4 hours later I could not find and neither could their trouble window help. So I bobtail back to yard grab a nice Knight tri-axle trailer and back to port for 20 ft container and off to San Luis AZ I went, was a live unload at border and customs, he headed to Mexico and I was back to port on my way out I was stopped at the scale, DOT was working and in I went for a level 1 inspection, both tractor and trailer and NO violations. So that will be a nice little bonus and the check and entry into $500 drawing. I made it back to port had container removed and dropped chassis back in the Rancho yard, bobtail back to port for load home. I got home last night, should be on a run but I am passing blood and have sleep study tonight. So just laying around hydrating and waiting for doc appointment this after noon.
As for my inverter it is a 600 watt, it runs my blender for protein shakes, bipap(cpap) machine, laptop and cooler just fine. Also my little portable A/C unit runs great with the no idle below 70 degrees I think it is. I do only have 3 batteries, truck works just fine.
On my drive back from Cali I got a check engine fault error service said if truck was running ok to just get to yard so I did. My qualcomm stopped working properly always on line 5(off duty drive). So it is sitting by shop to be looked at.
So far I like it, was a rough 1st week but hey I am working.
The ONLY complain I have is no the no idle between 32-70 and with no APU's and built in inverters it is pretty warm in the truck.Last edited: Aug 2, 2013
