Thanks. Only way you can move weight is with your fifth wheel. The 20s you can slide the tandems out and back. Just make sure those pins lock cause you look silly with the frame on the ground and the tandems about 200 foot behind you. 45s you can sometimes adjust them but are hard to come by. For the most part you should be good.

Cage, not to a spoilsport but have you asked Knight how the bigger/wider Panamacanal will effect their SouthCal portoperations?
Goodluck. -
The improved Panama Canal will let the container ships get through the canal faster and will have some effect on port operations such as more ships / tighter schedules.
-
Flatbed a buddy of mine who works for the port itself said the same thing, tighter schedules due to more ships. He said they anticipate a 25-35% increase in business needs hence the reason the port has requested to add over 500 trucks over the next 6 months. I have no worries about it. Oh and to answer your question daf195paccar the answer I got was why do you think we are expanding the division.
FLATBED Thanks this. -
Now for the 1st day of orientation, the typical paperwork stuff, went over the Smith System multiple videos and powerpoint, lunch and then driving test which I was happy to ACE. I did grind a few times it was an 8 speed and I have always driven a 10 so I did grind a few times, the tester said not to stress about it and was happy I did so well for being out of the truck so long.

Did u have wayne? Im a port guy I enjoy it sometimes, get used to long waits and dealing with all the ####### people in the port.
-
Yep I have Wayne. What run you on the Sun-Fri or Mon-Sat? It says you are a student thought you had to have 6 months experience for intermodal? Not too worried about the wait I have a buddy who works at the port he said it is the name of the game he said to get there as close to 8 as possible NEVER get there around noon then around 2 are good times. He said scheduled times suck if a ship is late or slow unloading then the sit and wait happens. He said Knight does well there and has a good status so most everyone has no issues with them. He said there are carriers who push the envelope and pay for it.

I have 2yrs not on here much. I run sun-thurs, right
now im doing a long haul to ohio. They do treat us good @ port services. Once u get to know ur dispatcher they will know your voice and will remember your name.. -
I think I am going to take the Mon-Sat. Can you tell me a bit about the schedule, if you do not want to post it feel free to PM me, or give ball park time of when you leave phx and get back. I know things can change but on the average the times?
Thanks.

Alot of the times you will either give u a live load or a repo cantainer back to the pirt . Time wise they give you till 2359 to get it there. The new people usually drop and hook. If you leave Monday morning and run hard you can be home thurday. Make sure you always check your tires on the trailer cuz they are crappy recaps. I sling them off most of the time. My brother left yesterday and will return today sometime. There is a lot of waiting. If you get Bret he's always good about finding you a load back, I have jon. He's always found me a load. If I leave phx @ 5am and nothing happens I'll be there b4 noon, I get my load out of the port it could be quick or take forever then I could make it to coachella, then to phoenix 4 1/2 hrs later. The times r a lot slower if you do 55 in ca
