Hey , after reviewing alot of companies , decided to try Knight . Orientation was 5 days long or 2.5 days , the rest was just hanging around . We did the pee/ hair test at the terminal as soon as we got there on Monday . Then off to a chiropractor's office for the physical exam . Which is pretty extensive , the usual except the weight lifting & carrying ! Then return to the terminal for lunch . After lunch they done the driving tests full length , back to the hotel . Day 2 we did the "Smith Test" driving the company van all around town , changing drivers about every 20 minutes or more . Stopped for lunch , company treat , then back to driving the van . Back to the terminal , hung around & back to the hotel . Day 3 , a couple people talked to us about Knight , we signed some online forms , lunch & done ! Never did they show anyone or ask if anyone needed help with the Qual-Comm or paperwork . Back to the hotel . Day 4 & 5 we just hung around & waited for Pheonix to do our "coding" as they call it . Putting us into the system & getting us trucks . On Friday just before 5pm I got mine , a VOLVO , I requested an "IH" , got a load that took me thru the house for my other things . The VOLVO lasted a week , got a "IH" used it for a week , the headlight went out . I replaced the light & nothing , Back to the shop for repairs , warrenty work , got assigned another "IH" .
First weeks pay goes on your TCH card , then direct deposit sets in . They offer you "pay daily" or "pay weekly" I took the daily , you transflo the paperwork in one day & get paid for it on the next day . Watch your pay carefully , always check it by load numbers . Their .33 to .42 cents per/mile , reality .20 to .29 per/mile so far ! Will discuss this with them . No wonder they brag that they are debt-free !! More later , at home on break .....

Your pay is 2 cents a mile less for the admin charge for per diem. Hence you are making .31-.40 com. Please don't mislead anyone into believing your only making .20-.29 cpm total. And if you don't want the per diem method of pay simply refuse it. Then you'll get the .33-.42 you expected. This is a 40k-50k per year company. All depends on how you run.

I'm wondering why a 30 year trucker would be working for 29 cents per mile.

Probably because the added $.11 per mile per diem makes that $.40/mile. Or more, with the sliding scale.
