    Thats SOP for trucking schools.

Also, the trucking school that I went to in Tucson (HDS) was also certified to conduct CDL Driving testing 'certification' for the road test portion* where they supplied the truck/trailer for a price (?), as well as offered a 'refresher course' aimed at former drivers.

    * Their paying students had to test at the DMV as might have been seen as a conflict of interest ...

Just finished training with Knight, the idle policy is a bit sketchy. Have had the truck shut off after 5 mins of idling while sitting at a truck stop but also have idled the truck all night without any problems. It may have to do with prior fuel consumption not really sure. Don't know of the office contacting any driver and telling them not to idle thou. As far as getting a nap in during the day/night while driving, hadn't had a problem with that as long as you had enough time on your 11/14 clocks.

Only "Knightmare's" I have seen are some of the idiot ### drivers that work there. As a company they are pretty solid, yeah sure EVERY company has its issues but im happy where I am now and we'll see how it goes. I have other plans for down the road, but I need experience to do that so thats why I am with Knight. I plan on working here at least until I get the experience I need to something else and depending on how it all works out may stay longer.

As for getting your CDL on your own, that is what I did. Got the government grant (WIA) they paid for school and then I was able to apply to any company who was hiring new students. Had about 7 or 8 prehires without any problem. Knight does their own school and from what I have seen its done well and I have seen drivers who definitely were trained worse. Its really all about what you want to do and if you want to have to repay the cost of the training or not. If you plan on working for Knight for a while then do their training program and see how it goes, if you plan on only hanging around for a few months or something or just want to keep your options open for employment then get your CDL on your own and then get hired.
