They use to use the term "Professional Diver" to give prestige to the trucking industry.

But the modern taking advantage of the driver (which is big co. standard practice) has often meant 'sucker!"

For those who grew up and were raised with a 'good work ethic' and a 'responsible maturity' (not like some whiny brat kids), esp if having been in the military where ppl arent paid for the job, but sign up for the job and do whatever is reqd, doing a complete job while gaining self-satisfaction is personally important to one's life.

If the attitude is: "No pay, then No workie," then where is the' job satisfaction?! Which is one of the problems with unions where productivity is down and no one goes the extra mile unless there is a buck in it for them...........

I found out, in most cases, when dealing with 'reputable DM's' (who are also in good with other terminal DM's), that my going the extra mile often paid off in good loads. If one develops a reputation for being a go-to person, better job satisfaction is achieved as well as tangible rewards---but it takes time. However, Knight's turnover in DM's often inhibits this process.

Hey if you want to work for free be my guess. I'm one of the hardest workers out there but my time isn't free.

I dont understand what your point is about the military. This isn't the military. I'm truly lost as to how you can pass judgement on others because you seem to think you are the only one who has ever been in the military.

Honestly on that whole military comment I see tons of vets these taking advantage of the system. Collecting as much from the government as they can get. All because we owe them.

Don't sit here and tell me what happened to work ethics. That's a crock. Im truly enjoying how you keep ducking my question about doing more for less pay.

Honestly man you need to stop ripping yourself off. That is all your doing. There is no advancement at these companies. None. Besides your DM no even knows your name. Hell at Schneider all you are is a number.

So yeah you keep working extra for free.

You seem to have a lot of 'axes to grind' as well as a bad attitude.

I've applied what I posted to my life and every job I've worked (including several 'salaried' jobs), as well as 5 yrs @ Knight/and just 2 trucking co.s over the 10 yrs I drove, and I've reaped the rewards of not only the personal job satisfaction I previously mentioned, but also job recognition & promotions, so that now I am enjoying a very comfortable retirement....i.e. it ALL paid off in my case, and my 2 adult children have taken the same advice and modeling and are also successful in their endeavors (1 white collar/1 blue collar) in the lives they chosen.

Sounds like you will end up being a job-hopping, minimum effort, wheel monkey with your attitude...

Well I sure as hell ain't gonna spoon a tire for Mister Knight on the side of the road because instead of getting real tire he bought south of the border recaps for the fleet, and a jet for himself.

    JUST SAYIN'

Having a good attitude and being a go-to person paid off for me:

    1) 1st co. after 9mos OTR, was 'selected' to run 3K miles/week driving a daycab and was home every night for 4 yrs until the contract with the customer ran out.

    2) Knight flew me to several cities across the US to p/u deserted tractors and run them back to Phx under load; as well as flew me to DFW several times to p/u new Pete's at the factory in Denton and drive back under load; and also hop in daycabs on the weekend when the regular drivers were off and run loads from CA-Phx.

And, btw, I left both co.s on 'good terms' with no bad feelings on anyone's part....

I was trying to figure out if I should post this or not and deiced to go ahead even if I do get flamed.

I have somewhat of a "Axe to grind" you could say with that comment. Now I'm not trying to take your comment out of context ether, but I do want to say this.

Why there are a few "Bad" apples out there when it comes to service men there is more good then bad by far. My dad was a vet and so was my grandpa. They both served, one in W2 one in Vit. Both felt the government owed them NOTHING and worked there arses off for every dollar they ever earned. Both of these guys would of died homeless before asking for help and at the same time gave there shirt off there back to help someone else in need. They both served to protect this country and do what was asked of them, Not get a pass in the "Giveme Giveme" club of this entitled generation.

My point is please don't paint the people that do protect our country and stand in harms way with such a disrespectful broad brush. Why I do agree there are some "mooches" there are far more that deserve our respect.

Yet you work here, Same as me. It amazes me that some people have such discontent for the company they work for, But yet they stay with that company drawing a paycheck from it. Why I agree I won't work for free, I had the choice to accept there polices when they extended me a job offer and I took them up on it.

    Just sayin!

I care about Knight as much as Knight cares about me and it's equipment.
