KNIGHT-mare

I don't know where to start...

Do NOT go to work for Knight at the Katy, TX terminal!!!

My dispatcher "Mike" was an incompetent liar. I was out for six weeks and documented the number of times he flat out lied. It wasn't because he was trying to screw me over (I don't think) but he just didn't have a clue what he was doing?? He would tell me loads were ready and I would drive to the shipper only to be told to come back tomorrow! There are too many stories to tell!!

Knight still owes me 7 full days of layover pay that I have filed an official complaint with the Texas Labor Board for unpaid wages. I did include documentation of E-mails between me and my, at the time, driver manager "Colby". He quit and the safety director "Kevin" says "anything that "Colby" told me is irrelevant because he doesn't work there anymore".

The miles sucked. I was out for six weeks. From Jan. 21 - March 08 and guess how many miles I got?? 8500!! PATHETIC!! The cpm is great but if no miles...no paycheck.

I did run into other drivers from different terminals and they seemed pretty happy. They do have new trucks and let you run in any area you like. If I was in another terminal with an honest dispatcher I would probably recommend Knight to other drivers. I was just unfortunate to join the Knight team in Katy, TX

Did you read the employee manual you where issued in orientation? My friend who works at Knight out of the Tukwila term says that Knight does not consider you "layed over" waiting to pu or deliver a load. Layover is paid at $48 dollars per 24 hour period you are available for a load but not given a dp of ANY kind. If they tell you load is not ready at your appt time, then you are detained waiting to pu the load. Knight does not give p.o. numbers for detention only hours and layover. Detention is billed to the customer and probably not paid unless in and out times are on the BOL and or the customer agrees to pay it.

She told me that any money you are owed for a trip other then miles must be given a p.o. number for and submitted with the trip and entered on the trip sheet. If not then you usually won't get paid for it. She has her dp
issue her p.o. for detention as something else like local hours.

She says at Knight no matter what anyone says, if it does not have a P.O. number payroll won't pay it.

That's the problem I was having. My DM quit before he issued the p.o.'s for my layover. The Safety guy in Katy, TX "Kevin" said that anything my DM said is irrelevent. These days I am referring to are full 24hr periods in which I received no dispatch!! 3 days in San Antonio, TX, 2 days in Tacoma, WA, 2 days in Lewiston, ID.

Just a follow-up for everyone on my complaint with the Texas Labor Board; they did receive my complaint form and have contacted Knight. The letter from the Labor Board said they would reach a decision by June 26, 2008. Knight is given 90 days to explain or justify why they are refusing to pay. Haha... good luck, I got BOL's, log books, E-mails, phone records, all the documentation!

You should nail them for the any locals I hear they have dcrivers do for free and seem to be to customers that detain you, which is why they are given to OTR drivers and not local drivers. Seems this is a big problem in LA.
